KC has recently stated that the Angus Hall is, not just a great occult cover, but could be one of his favourite photo covers. An idea for a thread?- well maybe not, but here's one of my faves anyway... Stephen D. Frances - Hate is for the Hunted, Mayflower (1968) More of an espionage novel than a horror/occult novel - but a damn creepy ritual taking place on the cover.

Hadn't seen that before, sev. Very striking. here's a mixed bag, mostly recycled from the Gregory Pendennis Library Of the Occult. Amazingly, no Dennis Wheatley. Yet. Donald McCormick - The Hellfire Club (Pedigree, nd: originally Jarrold, 1958) Robert McCammon - Baal (Chivers Press, 1985) Montague Summers - Witchcraft & Black Magic (Arrow, 1964: originally Rider, 1946) William Seabrook - Witchcraft: Its Power In The World Today (Sphere, 1970: originally published 1942 [?]) June Johns - Black Magic Today (Nel, 1971)
James Holledge - Sex And The Sun King (Horwitz, 1964)

here is one of those forgotten occult novels which I honestly don´t know if it ever was translated out of the german. Original Publication 1927 [/div] ]German edition of Brood of the Witch Queen [/div] more action than occult, but the Weinberg´s are a lot of fun Another occult classic, but hard to read today - a serious cover from a serious publisher [/div]

This is shaping up to be quite some gallery! I love most of the Dennis Wheatley Black Magic paperback covers but always found this one particularly evocative. Dennis Wheatley - The Irish Witch (Arrow 1975: second impression. Originally Hutchinson, 1973) More Hellfire Club chuckles. the cover painting is lovely and the smaller detail - the babe in flames, the cowled guy on the back - finish it off just so.

more photo fun. we've had these before but for handiness sake ... Abragail & Valaria - How to Become a Sensuous Witch: Spells, Rituals, and Recipes for a Livelier Love Life (Paperback Library,1971). Hubble, bubble, toil and trouble in black tights 'n boots. Reproduced here by kind permission of Sexy Witch. Ralph Comer – The Witchfinders (Tandem, 1968) cover originally scanned by killercrab. Just look at those evil uglies! Aren't they lovely! Mary-Rose Hayes - The Neighbours (Nel, July 1978: Originally Pinnacle Books, 1977, Nel Open Market edition, Dec. 1977) Photo: Adrian Mott The Neighbours is one of my all time favourite Black Magic novels and i always found this cover slightly unnerving.

a few more. Sandra Shulman - The Daugthers of Astaroth (Paperback Library 1968; this is the german edition 1973)
This owes a lot to Wheatley in terms of plot and attitude. John Tigges - Garden of the Incubus (Leisure 1982)
I don´t remember anything about this. Still, Leisure had some interesting novels at the time. Gimone Hall - Witch´s Suckling (German edition, 1972, abridged as "Spell of the Witch")
One of those Rosemary´s Baby cottage industry novels which couldn´t decide if it wants to be a Gothic or a Horror.

Seeing as Dem has already posted what I'd intended as my next contribution, namely the gorgeous Irish Witch and The Witchfinders, I'd better find something else - how about an old fave; Jack D. Shackleford, with a horned Basil Brush presiding over the ceremony. By the way KC, I've got a few Jeff Jones' on the way to me, including that superb David St. John piece - thanks for posting.

more from the master. He was almost always lucky with his cover artwork. This is the Arrow reprint from 1985. John Tigges - Garden of the Incubus (Leisure 1982) I don´t remember anything about this. Still, Leisure had some interesting novels at the time. i've read a couple of John Tigges novels, Vessel (Countess Bathory and her entourage at large in South Dakota: "Look out Stephen King!") & Book Of The Dead, (equally improbable adventures of Lilith, the first vampire), both of them highly entertaining rubbish. He also wrote for Leisure as 'William Essex' and i still live in hope of tracking down copies of his Slime and The Pack!

. He also wrote for Leisure as 'William Essex' and i still live in hope of tracking down copies of his Slime and The Pack! So, another prolific writer I have never heard of. Hmm. For ages I want to write up Leisure writer William Schoell who wrote a handful of quite good novels at the time, covering a wide range of themes, very eighties. Bride of Satan was an interesting if flawed one, an early take on the haunted horror movie. Same goes for Spawn of Hell, which had a lovecraftian monster lurking in the sewer.

Bloody hell, I've only just remembered who David St. John was!! - E Howard Hunt - one of Nixon's fixers, served time for the Watergate burglary. I've got a few of his P.I. books written as Robert Dietrich...

so it's not a paperback cover but here's a newsagent’s poster from 1994 announcing yet another laugh out loud funny News Of The Worldexpose! Top Cop's Satan Sex Secret! Fiend's Lust For My Virgin Daughter! Witch Is Happy To Be Caned ("We're just in it for sex and orgies and beatings")! Cook Brews Black Magic (featuring a Satan worshipping 'Roly poly chef') Next Week: I was victim of warlock's lust! Thanks to the bride for taking a photo for me.
