The Short Story - Season 1, episode 9 - The Boarded Window (1978)
From OV Guide:
This 16-part ITV series boasted excellent production values. John Robbins, famed for Cover To Cover, introduced the dramatizations in The Short Story and directed a handful of them as well. Much like Cover To Cover, Robbins set the stage for a book. The remainder of each program played out the story in Masterpiece Theatre fashion. The late Ray Gladfelter wanted to duplicate this formula when he started production of The Novel in 1980, but would run into problems.
Unfortunately doesn't have a video of it - but hope this helps?

pretty sure that's not the one, john, but thanks for trying. i was thrown by the name Leonard Wolf, assuming he was also the Transylvanian author/ Dracula expert of the same name who often shows up in horror documentaries, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

You're right - must have been another version - here's info on the one I think the enquirer might be after. Seems to be very rare indeed. INFO:The Boarded Window, by Alan W. Beattie, color short, 1973 The Boarded Window, by Alan W. Beattie, color short, International Instructional Television Cooperative video release, 1978 Found the most barest of info here - which states that Leonard Wolfe was indeed in this short filmftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/title/152145and there is more information from here - the transcript of which is belowanswers.google.com/answers/threadview/id/708375.htmlthis elusive video (if indeed it is the one youremember) sure doesn't seem to be for sale anywhere. But it does appear to exist in several library collections, including:
William Patterson University of New Jersey: admin2.wpunj.edu/htbin/wwform/www/?TEXT=R5741447-5744793-/www/documents/070/cat/wwi770.htm
University of Michigan: fvlalpha.ugl.lib.umich.edu/htbin/wwform/www/?TEXT=R6742640-6745152-/www/documents/198/cat/wwi770.htm
or evenWinnacunnet High School in Hampton, NH www.winnacunnet.k12.nh.us/webopac/titleinfo?k1=142520&k2=24427
For locating a copy near you, you could try searching at World Cat. There do seem to be some out there, as a search in my state alone turned up a half dozen copies: www.worldcatlibraries.org/wcpa/ow/0a3d1042371f79b6a19afeb4da09e526.html
For possible purchase, you might try the "last resort" of video searchers, the video detectives at "A Million and One World Wide Videos," who will search for you, for a fee. They claim they can get any title ever produced. Check 'em out here: www.wwvideos.com/index.html
