Many of you will know about the anthology comedy-horror series In The Gloaming, which we have been releasing as free monthly podcasts. The good people of CKDU 88.1FM have seen fit to broadcast our first episode, Dead Skinny, tonight to the denizens of Nova Scotia. So we can now, officially, reside in the 'Ghastly Radio' section.
We'll also be performing live at the World Horror Convention in March, on the Friday and Saturday evenings...

hi nathaniel
having listened to Dead Skinny and As Cold As The Grave i reckon "Ghastly Radio" is about right. Dead Skinny - fiercely-competitive sales reps Andy and Donna learn that there really is such a thing as being too thin - is plenty sick, but i prefer As Cold As The Grave which i wasn't really getting on with so well until the marriage proposal in the graveyard - it stepped up a notch after that, or so it seemed to me, and the shades-of-Poe ending suited. Is Ruth Bratt the voice of Jenny? i thought she did a terrific job. i like the creepy-voiced horror host, too. Have you written prose versions of these?
sweet screams, and good luck at Brighton.

Hi Demonik, Thanks for listening, and I'm glad you enjoyed the podcasts. If you get a chance, I'd love to know what you thought of our Christmas Special, The Night Whisperer, which I think is our strongest yet: The Night WhispererRuth Bratt played Annabel in Silent As The Grave; and Rhiannon in Dead Skinny. She's also out ghost in The Night Whisperer. You can hear her in Sarah Millican's upcoming radio show, as well as spotting her at the 50-hour improvathon in London this Friday and Saturday. (Full credits for each episode are here: Gloamers) We haven't done prose versions of these stories, but I am planning on doing a series of short flash fictions in the ITG style, after we had one included in the Black Static Advent Calendar. It's called Hoofprints In The Snow, and it's here: Hoofprints In The Snow. Again, I'd be really interested to know what members of this board think of it. There will be another short out next week. Anyway, must dash, I have to finish writing the script for tomorrow's recording, which will be released on Friday 29th...

I've only had time to listen to "As Silent as the Grave" so far, but it was very enjoyable and slickly done, with nice performances all round. Interesting to see the script online and compare it with the finished article (the drunk Dan's response to the question, "What do you want?" was much funnier in performance. I think it was the use of 'An'), and I'll be giving the rest a listen when I get the chance.

Thanks, Lurker, glad you enjoyed seeing the scripts as well. The most extensive cuts were made in the first episode, when I'd written far too much. The first edit was about 55 minutes long.
Hope you enjoy the others...

Ah, it was Rachel Stubbings as the zombie girlfriend. i love the note of gleeful malice in her voice as she dishes Danny his just desserts. will give The Night Whisperer a go one morning this week. it will be up against something called Graveyard Mansion from a 1933 radio show, The Witches Tale hosted by Old Nancy and Satan the cat, which has been hanging around so long, i can't remember why i downloaded it.
hope you don't mind but i cleaned up your links as the Gloamers one went to a 404 error message.
enjoyed your appreciation of Lord P.'s De Vermis Infestis on the blog, btw.

Yes, Rachel's great, she's not in this month's because she's jetting off to the Sundance Film Festival where a short film she's in has been selected for the competition. So, she'll do...
Thanks for fixing those links. One day I'll learn how to use the Internet without breaking it.
I'm looking forward to getting and reading more of JLP's stuff, and the other Black Books, as soon as finances allow...

The most extensive cuts were made in the first episode, when I'd written far too much. The first edit was about 55 minutes long. My recent Sherlock Holmes radio play had a 43 page script that ran to 76 minutes in a 50 minute slot! I need to write less speeches, I think. There was some very skillful and ingenious editing done by the guys at Imagination Theater to trim it down to size for broadcast - occasionally cutting from the middle of one line of dialogue to the middle of a later one without the join showing. It worked very well, and the story flowed, though I'm glad that the full version, with character moments and some jokes, is getting released.
