Not sure where to place this thread.
Worst cover? Worst start to a book? Best grammatical convolutions? Worst misuse of the renowned Jack Palance?
I'm only a page into it and I will have to reread that page due to some kind of default on sentence structure. It seems there is a mindslaying sword which can only be grasped by someone good at, eh...mindslaying? Also this mindslayer must wear green tights and a chirpy hat. He lives in a castle and there's a brother called Voltan. Its all a bit sketchy but I'm sure I'll get there. (Must start calling myself Voltan in certain social situations)
Present from a good friend - beats socks any day.

I have a hazy recollection of the movie. I know that I liked it, but this isn´t a recomendation. This was the time of movies like Conan, the dire Krull and the even direst Ator, and fantasy on the big screen was new. So we decided to like it, even if it was trash. I think to remember that they "borrowed" Howard´s famous curcifiction scene at the end, but it could be I am confusing this with another barbarian movie of the time. Anyway, never knew the made a novelisation. Wow.

Oh wow! Someone else remembers 'Ator the Fighting Eagle'! Written and directed by jolly Joe D'Amato (as David Hills if I remember rightly). It has one of the most rubbish giant spiders in living memory at the climax.
Anyway,
There was something really wrong with the sword and sorcery mini-boom wasn't there? None of them were very good and the best were only really enjoyable on a 'fairly rubbish' level - eg The Sword and the Sorceror and dear old Hawk the Slayer
Who wrote the novelisation Craig?

Yup,
I love it. I suspect the film was good in the best possible tradition of the vault
Terry Marcel and Harry Robertson appear to be the accused, John. I'll certainly be seeking them out

I love Hawk the Slayer! I've got the special DVD with 40 minutes of documentary footage including Jack Palance being interviewed and having no idea where he is or what he's doing! I've also got the soundtrack album

Extra green tights, large swords, full bosomed women, lots of trees, indifferent extras, cardboard castles and a scary wizard? If so it's yours for the evening filmathon and I'll bring the malt and doritos.
Any film with Jack Palance in it has a huge start in my book. Always thought he was one of the best.
I had great fun in September at my mate Penni's watching endless horror mixed with Conan pastiches and B movie SF. The only spoilers were getting up to make the occasional cup of tea or open a bottle.

Extra green tights, large swords, full bosomed women, lots of trees, indifferent extras, cardboard castles and a scary wizard ... well that's me sold. There's a NEL edition from 1981 combining Hawk The Slayer and Marcel & Robertson's Flash Gordon novelisation which is almost as attractive a proposition as the lunatic Eat Them Alive/ Fleshbait double header. and speaking of full-bosomed women, i managed a few more pages of Reptilicus last night ....
