The 11th of December 1959 saw the first copies of The Pan Book of Horror Stories hit the shelves. It spawned a massive thirty books to dark voices and has influenced so many anthologies that has come after them.
So raise a glass to Messrs van Thal and Paget and to the four hundred plus authors (pen names included) who made this series still talked about and truly loved or loathed and on a personal note, its an honour to be involved in helping Pan to bring out that very first book out next October.

I'll be drinking a toast tonight Johnny - to the Pan Book of Horror and also to the sterling efforts of the man who will be responsible for it being in bookshops again, God (or some naughty deity who approves of everything I get up to) willing

I can't believe it's fifty years since it was first published. (Or thirty nine since I was in it!)
