Edgar Allan Poe - The Pit And The Pendulum (Digit, undated: 196?) Robert Osborne: Cover design by courtesy of Anglo Amalgamated Film Distributors Ltd. Blurb Edgar Allan Poe was the Master of Horror and his most famous Terror classic, The Pit And The Pendulum, is here published, together with other well-known macabre stories by the same author. The film of this title is currently under release by Anglo Amalgamated Film Distributors, Ltd., starring Vincent Price, John Kerr, Barbara Steele and Luana Anders, in Technicolor. Other best-selling Poe titles in this series have been The Gold Bug, The Fall Of The House Of Usher (also an Anglo Amalgamated release) and Descent Into The Maelstrom. It's just a shame that this isn't a novelisation of Corman's inspired film, maybe my favourite from his Poe cycle after Masque Of The Red Death for those glorious final scenes in the torture chamber and poor Babs trapped inside the iron maiden! For the record, you get The Pit And The Pendulum, The Gold Bug, Loss Of Breath, Thou Art The Man, Bon Bon, The Devil In The Belfry, The Black Cat and Facts In The Case Of M. Valdemar, but we doubt anyone bought this for the contents.
