First draft of issue 7 is nigh-on complete- been a busy fanatic, hence the lack of activity on this here site. But I've been keeping a beady eye on you all. (Now the teeth have been drawn to my attention- despite being just married I hadn't noticed them- I can't get them out of my head. She looks Dario Argento in drag!)
I'm very excited about the cover- from the excellent Richard Sala. I haven't seen a sketch yet, but I just know it'll be a knock out! Can't wait!
Contents are- 'The Degenerates'- the first part of my study of the NEL horror pulps 'He is not Dead, He Does not Sleep' An overview of the career of my personal hero the late Laurence James 'Make it look more like Frazetta!' A study of fantasy artist Jeff Jones 'A Man Called Nolan'- an interview with publishing innovator Fred Nolan. I reckon it'll be this issue's equivalent to the Phil Harbottle interview in 6
Issue 8 will have the concluding part of the NEL horror study, the second part of Hell's Angels in pulp fiction, interviews with peter Leslie and (hopefully Brian Ball) and a look at Richard Clifton-Dey's art.
All/any further suggestions are very welcome!

Now the teeth have been drawn to my attention- despite being just married I hadn't noticed them- I can't get them out of my head. She looks Dario Argento in drag! She's adorable, isn't she? Looks like she stepped off one of the saucier covers of a Michael Green Art Of Course ... book or, at a push, a Confessions .... Fanatic is building up into the most amazing overview of the heroes/ villains of the 'seventies publishing industry. Hardly got over #6 and already there's the promise of the long-awaited Nel Horrors retrospective, Laurence James, more Hell's A, the possibility of a Brian Ball cameo .... I found a copy of Peter Leslie's The Fakers in the Notting Hill basement last year. I'd not heard of him, but it was a NEL '71 and the cover blurb mentioned something about the theatre where it's set being "the world's most far out" so a no-brainer purchase if ever there was. Fair tore through it!

I heard from Justin a while back. While we've been enduring hailstones as big as golf balls that sent my cat tumbling off the kitchen roof where she'd been sunbathing, Justin's enjoying the sun in Hawaii. Lucky bas...

love the cover - LJ would have been bemused but appreciative of the attention - i know his son loves the fact that people remember his dad. if it's like the the pulpmania piece in saw, then this alone is worth the price!

love the cover - LJ would have been bemused but appreciative of the attention - i know his son loves the fact that people remember his dad. if it's like the the pulpmania piece in saw, then this alone is worth the price! I like that cover, too. It's kinda 'knowing' and is definitely a grower. I've just finished proofreading the Fanatic, and I can tell you that after reading 71 A5 pages, probably 70 of them dealing with LJ, it's definitely going to be another issue to treasure. I'm not going to rabbit on about it, as I don't want to pre-empt others' comments, but Dem has mentioned the Jeff Jones article, which has some insightful comments by Justin - some of his best writing, in fact. And the Fred Nolan article is one I thought pretty inspiring. A certain Andy Boot gets namechecked there somewhere, too. You won't mind hunting for that.
