I know the Right Hon. Lord P was hoping publication would coincide with FantasyCon, but i don't see it advertised on Screaming Dreams yet so, if you get to see this yer worship, any news? That COVER is worth a thread to itself. John Llewellyn Probert - Against the Darkness (Screaming Dreams, 2009) Stephen Upham blurb: Not Your Run-Of-The-Mill Mysteries…..
A gymnasium that can suck the life from you A grand piano with a deadly secret Zombie Vikings buried on a Somerset beach A wedding reception where the guests get eaten - by the bride A cathedral harbouring an unspeakable evil to be unleashed live on ‘Songs of Praise’ A haunted comprehensive school with a history of appalling violence
Not Your Run-Of-The-Mill Investigators….
Mr Massene Henderson lives in a huge mansion in the Welsh mountains, has a wardrobe filled with far too many velvet smoking jackets, and thinks nothing of despatching the denizens of hell he encounters with incantations, spells, or if necessary a very big gun.
Miss Samantha Jephcott wears a lot of black, works in middle management, doesn’t know she’s psychic, doesn’t believe in the paranormal, and doesn’t have any idea that she’s about to have the most exciting year of her life.
Not Your Run-Of-The-Mill Short Story Collection…
John Llewellyn Probert’s ‘Against the Darkness’ brings together the first eleven cases of this unlikely couple. Join them as their adventures take them from North Wales to New York, Ross-on-Wye to Reykjavik, Portishead to Paris, and on a very brief trip at over a hundred miles an hour through Weston super-Mare. The volume also contains an introduction by the author and extensive notes on the writing of the tales themselves. All this and instructions on how to play the theme from a famous Italian horror film on the piano. What more could you want?

Ain´t that the truth?
DISCLAIMER: I havn´t read any of these stories. So I apologize if I am way off base. These are just my thoughts based on this cover.
I am in two minds of this.
The one who works in publishing says that this cover is SMART. Screaming Dreams seems to be a smart small-press publisher with different ideas for different books.
This looks so much like a Paranormal Romance. Of course it isn´t, but chances are high that it will be displayed next to the massmarket stuff where it doesn´t look out of place. And any book that a customer takes in his hand to read the back cover is a book half sold.
For those in the know - genre lovers - this cover has a certain - what´s the word - levity? This is David and Maddie or Mulder and Scully against the forces of Darkness. (The guy even looks like Duchovny´s younger brother) Put your tongue in cheek, it will be a fun ride. ;D
So much for marketing.
As a horror fan who loves things of a broad range I think this is a postmodern - hm - joke which leaves me absolutly cold. I get all the references, and I am so tired of them.
So much for me.
Thanks for the info, Dem. I ordered the book from Amazon.uk and am really looking forward to it.

I'd forgotten to mention this one! It was touch and go as to whether it would be ready for FantasyCon but it was so yes, it's now in print. I suspect the stories might be of interest to some Vault members. Far from the cruel and sadistic 'proper horror' that I relish writing the most, these stories are indeed a lot lighter, and are more a mix of 'The Avengers' and R Chetwynd-Hayes' Fred & Francis adventures. As for the cover - here's a vault exclusive (!). The cover mockup I sent to the publisher featured me and a lady in a rather less trendy pose pointing guns at my Dad with a sheet over his head. As Andy has mentioned the image has been rather 'trendied up' from the decidedly 70s pulp paperback photo image it started out as. Perhaps that's one for the website. Anyway like I said - this is meant to be a lighter book and was partly written for the very many people I know who don't like the sort of horror stories the writing of which helps keep me sane. In case anyone's worried it will be back to seriously nasty business as usual with Wicked Delights And then even nastier business with the follow-up to 'The Catacombs of Fear', (you all knew it had to happen -oh yes!) some of the subject matter of which is going to be so horrible I'm chuckling as I type this. In fact I can't wait to get back to writing it. And that's a second Vault exclusive

Yes, Dem, it was on sale at Fcon. Also Lord P did a reading of Two For Dinner from BB5 and I missed it! Alright, Dr. T. There's really no need to get all verbose with us! Hope you had a good time there, those of you who attended. So how did it go? And Caroline, if you read this i'm sorry you were unable to attend. Screw the website! That's one for Vault. I mean ... er, begging your pardon, yer worship ....

Screw the website! That's one for Vault. I mean ... er, begging your pardon, yer worship .... My dear Dem you've started the JLP creative photo opportunity wheels a-churning and so the Vault may get treated to something a little better than that original

Shall look forward to that and no mistake! This place is badly in need of some sparkle. Mrs. demonik was very impressed with the photo of you on the back cover by the way; "he's a proper gentleman, that's what he is. A proper gentleman. I bet he doesn't post loads of photo's of girls bosoms on the board like the rest of you ...."
