Just heard the news that Lux has died aged 60 of a heart condition. The Cramps were unique. Coming after 'Arold Pinter and Ron Asheton, this is terrible.

Bloody horrible news that. I'm playing his spirited rendition of Strychnine as i type. Songs The Lord Taught Us is so good it shouldn't be allowed. RIP King Cramp.

John Martyn gone too. Never bought an album but an icon no doubt.

Sad news, The Cramps are an old favourite of mine. Unfortunately never got to see them. They leave some great records.

It's funny now viewing this as an old geezer but the Cramps were just mythic parts of that whole punk scene at the time - its almost as though they weren't invented but just simply existed.

Although they were around with the punks and psychobillies, The Cramps always seemed a bit out there on their own. I saw them twice and I think that's why this has come as a real blow. It's very difficult to nominate anything as definitive about them - apart from possibly Songs The Lord Taught Us (which I came to late) and Off The Bone (a compilation of singles). I've seen the 20 minutes or so of 'Live At The Napa State Mental Hospital' which is horribly compulsive viewing ( The Cramps themselves look impossibly young). Any band with song titles like Eyeball In My Martini or Bikini Girls with Machine Guns and albums called Fiends Of Dope Island is beyond reproach really. No more Big Beat From Badsville.

"Some people told me you're crazy but I'm not so sure about that. You look OK to me!" Perhaps the most disturbing thing about it (other than the guilty thought that Night Of The Living Dead has happened for real[/i]) is that (the, sadly, also deceased) Bryan Gregory looks right at home. He seems to be having the time of his life.
