Gillian Freeman - The Leader (Nel Four Square, 1967) Blurb: Vincent Wright is a seedy, asthmatic bank clerk who dreams of dictatorship. He looks in the mirror and sees the new British Fuhrer.
His British First Party hates Jews and n*****s, holds health camps, chants slogans and stirs up race hate. His supporters are thugs, perverts, beats and spivs.
Their story - and the rise and fall of Vincent - is as topical as today's headlines. Straight to the top or near enough of the to read pile. The bride picked this up along with the Aran Ashe masterpiece featured on the Phwoar! thread. My gratitude and admiration know no bounds!

Did you like this one, and have you read any of her others? I'm looking at the moment at some of her books to see if they'd be good candidates for new editions.

You should talk to the fellow who runs the website TrashFiction, Valancourt. He adores her and would no doubt recommend The Leader, The Liberty Man, The Marriage Machine, Jack Would Be A Gentleman, Nazi Lady and The Undergrowth Of Literature. I've only read The Leather Boys.
