My deathless prose on the subject, copied from the other thread...
Filthy Creations 4
First of all, I have to mention again the splendid way this magazine is put together. Very swish indeed. The cover, and the internal illustrations, are of a consistently high quality. Rog's drawing style gives FC a special look of its own.
(I haven't went into any detail on the contents, 'cos I wanted to avoid any spoilers for potential readers... oh, and this is obviously all just my opinion, so I hope I don't accidentally piss anyone off...)
VERSE - by Virginia Powell Three individual pieces, scattered through the mag. The first, 'Transparent Visitor' is, in my opinion, the best of these. It works almost as a short prose piece. Some good images in all three.
CHARACTER - by Sean Parker Moving swiftly on...
THE SNAKES INSIDE - by Noah Brown I remember being impressed by this one on the old board. Striking and strange. Describing it would be pointless, its one of those things that you just have to read.
THE LODGE - by John Kenneth Dunham Well written, a good solid horror tale. Dunno who this bloke is, I'll have to see if Birthday Boy knows...
PHONE NUMBER - by Caroline Callaghan A nice enough horrory flash fiction piece, one of two toilet tales...
HOLDING ON - by Charles Black ...and here is the other. Another short piece. Good fun. The last line is great.
THE HORROR OF DREADSTONE MOOR - Franklin Marsh I'm afraid I haven't read this one yet, I'll come back to it when I've caught up on the previous parts...
BAIT - by Rog Pile. Contains a Maitland. Another fine horror tale. I notice that Rog is quietly producing some quality work.
GHOST HUNTERS - by D F Lewis A nice, atmospheric endpiece. Just the thing. __________
Oh, and an add for the 'Black Book of Horror' on the back. Any slackers really should pick up a copy. As they should 'Filthy Creations 4'.

right then-actual comments on issue 4... (hope this is the right place to put 'em)
'character'-i ended up really enjoying this but did start off thinking 'oh another story about a horror writer...'even though this is something i'm sure we're all guilty of-wrtite what you know and all that. however as it went on i really enjoyed it.
'bait'-again as a whole i enjoyed it even though there were two points which grated. -buying alcohol in the early hours from a supermarket. unless the laws changed since the last time i tried to buy a beer at 11.01 in sainsburys this doesnt really happen...inflated prices at 24 hour mini marts for the bloke to slip you a few stellas that i could see. -the gun...just a little convenient and i didn't like the explanation. perhaps if he'd bought it because he'd done a photo story on local crime rackets (a la the odessa file) i'd have believed it more. that said i really enjoyed the rest of the story and really liked the noirish feel that it generated.
the two short 'toliet' (Holding On and Phone Number) stories were both very enjoyable and short as well as being nice and punchy.
i enjoyed part 4 of the 'moor' story but really wanted to read the rest OF THE TALE to put it in perspective.
all in all i really liked FC but i would say that i thought the layout could do with a rejig- the address etc appeared about a quarter of the way through...

You can buy booze in supermarkets (in the UK) any time of day or night apart from midnight - 5am (or something similar, I haven't worked in a supermarket for a few years now), and an hour or two on Sundays.

Gosh, I thought Dem had tucked this thread away in the workshop. Mind you, I'm surprised he isn't joining in the debate on supermarket licensing hours. Of course I can't speak from experience about buying late-night alcohol... Troo is probably the authority on that. The point about the gun. Yeah, I totally forgot about that bit with all the other rewriting. I'll nick Ben's idea about needing it for the inside story on the local mafia. Much more convincing.

Of course I can't speak from experience about buying late-night alcohol... Troo is probably the authority on that. I'm far more concerned about buying emergency late-night chocolate

Just tidying up my house at lunchtime and amongst a pile of old junk mail and bank statements (much the same thing, sadly) I happened across a package I'd previously missed, which, to my delight, contained a copy of FC No.4. So, first of all, my apologies to Rog for not thanking him sooner. Very much appreciated, Rog. Looking forward to reading this one over the weekend. Nice to see a couple of stories I'd previously enjoyed in the workshop ("Character" and "The Snakes Inside") and I'm keen to crack on with the rest. Really like the cover and the illustrations are up to the usual very high standards - I particularly like the one of the girl climbing the ladder. Haven't had much opportunity to post of late for a number of reasons (including forgetting my password so I couldn't log-on during... ahem... work hours) but there'll be more to follow once I've had a chance to read the whole issue.

This looks interesting... are all four issues available still? Cheers, Martin Might be an idea to PM Rog (username: Calenture), Martin. He's the one who prints them all so he can let you know whether they're still available. I guess they will be. They're well worth a read! (and I'm not just saying that 'cos I've got a little story - along with one of Rog's superb illustrations - in one of them!) ;D
