Special nod to Lurker. Your animated skeleton with creepy-crawly accessories (p. 272-3) will be with me for the rest of my days and, most likely, beyond. Many thanks, dem. Glad to hear the thing whose name I'd better not mention made an impression. I don't know if we've heard the last of it either.

Congratulations, Dr Terror, on a good review of this book from Peter Tennant in the new 'Black Static'.
Really really upset, though, that he didn't mention my stories at all!

I suppose this is the price of fame, Des. He probably thought: "D F Lewis: living legend. What can I write about that man that hasn't been said a hundred times before?"
Does anyone see Black Static on their local newsagents shelves, incidentally? Smiths don't list it here, and you know what that means.

Thanks Des.
Rog, apparently the only shops that currently stock Black Static are: Murder One on Charing X Rd, London and Transreal in Edinburgh.
And as far as I can tell the TTA website doesn't sell individual copies, just 6 or 12 issue subscriptions.

I got my copy of Black Static in the post today. The review is excellent - and quite lengthy. "...we get stories the likes of Lovecraft and Poe, James and Benson would not have turned their noses up at..." All in all a review to be proud of Charles - and I hope it does some good for sales! David

I tried to post this but it might not have got through. I finally managed to stick up news items on my website for both The Black book and Filthy creations. In the unlikely event that the three Scottish music fans I have acquired, after thirty years of playing, develop an interest in horror we are all on a winner.

Thanks Craig.
David, yes, I was surprised at how much coverage it got.

I've just learned that posting Peter Tennant's review of The Black Book in its entirity was a copyright no-no. Fair enough, though it should be possible to post parts of it by way of illustration. Some of these stories have already had quite a bit of comment. And I'd agree with Peter's comments on my own Cords, which was intended as a pulp shocker, no more, no less. It's interesting how different reviewers fix on different stories as being worth notice. I was particularly happy to see this comment: "‘Power’ by Steve Goodwin is one of the highlights, the tale of a Brit in Poland who falls in with a gang of Satanic skinheads. The story is beautifully written, with the evil Marek and his philosophy of power and nullity a compelling creation, a Nietzsche wannabe with a streak of Crowley thrown in to flavour, while a strong sense of place grounds the story in reality even as the supernatural elements coalesce, their precise nature left chillingly unsaid." Here is a link which takes you to the Black Static site. The subscribe link is at the foot of the page: 6 issues for £21.

Thanks Rog.
A very good pulp shocker, though!
There are single issues available from Fantastic Literature (keep your eye on the ads up top), and on sale on ebay.

Thanks, Charles.
One thing that occurred to me though is that if Black Static look for fiction which "challenges the readers expectations", then it makes it all the more puzzling that a certain snake-shaped story wasn't mentioned. As I would have thought that that, more than any other in the book, fitted that requirement.

Courtesy of FM comes news that's broken on the BHF board: there's a tiny review of BBoH in the current issue of Death Ray magazine.
I'm not sure whether that's issue 10 or 11. Looking at their site I see that issue 11 is out on Feb 28.
Death Ray is stocked by places like WH Smith's. If it's in 10 it's had very little impact on UK sales, but maybe 11 is out early.

Looking at their site I see that issue 11 is out on Feb 28. Death Ray is stocked by places like WH Smith's. If it's in 10 it's had very little impact on UK sales, but maybe 11 is out early. I've just found the post at the BHF board. I think it's probably in issue 11, as magazines don't usually stay on W H Smith's shelves for the full month. However the person who saw the review is only 90% sure it was that magazine. But that seems good enough to justify hunting it down. At least, the report is that it's a good review (see quote from BHF below). "The review was a definite thumbs-up. You may struggle to find the review though as it is quite small. Tucked away at the bottom right hand corner towards the end of the book review section if memory serves me right. Now you've got me doubting whether it was Death Ray as I was having a general gander at all the mags being the cheap browser that I am. 90% sure it was that magazine though." Quote copied from here.
