Conan: Tree of Death - Thomas & Buscema

Script is by Roy Thomas, art by John Buscema. The story is a 60 page plus adaptation of R E Howard's A Witch Shall Be Born. Why am I bothering to tell you that? It's from Marvel's Savage Sword of Conan # 5, April 1975.

I've always thought that Conan biting off the vulture's head, while being crucified, was R E Howard's contemptuous response to the Christian crucifixion story.

^there's a judge dredd story where they quite obviously used this as inspiration! except that dredd pulls his own hands through the heads of the nails.
