I'm pretty pleased myself. Haha. It's nice when you find an old fashioned charity shop that sells anything and everything. Rather than the usual modern paperbacks.

It's probably not a good time to wind up the poms, much as I'd like to. Anyways, thin Vaultish pickings at the mid-year charity bookfair - for $2 each:

Was pleased to pick up this boxed set of Thriller. I've never heard of The Veil, which apparently was never broadcast. $14 the pair from the junk shop. And if anyone is interested, here's a snap of the junk shop - the top two shelves are dedicated to Barbara Cartland! But there are a few gems amongst the crap.

Found this one in our local charity shop( Second Chance Animal Rescue), and the back, and the wrap around, It was the 'Gothic Stories of Horror and Romance' that initially caught my eye, but the 'Edited by Peter Haining' didn't hurt either.

Hope you find it as entertaining as I do, Mr. Horror! Great British Tales Of Terror. Easily one of my all-time top ten Haining's, but don't pay too much attention to the attributions of authorship!

It goes for about £65 at the moment. I bought it a few years ago for that. The Veil I got for a bit less than you but it's interesting none the less.

The Veil I got for a bit less than you but it's interesting none the less. I've watched a few a few episodes of Thriller like "The Cheaters", "The Purple Room" and "Pigeons From Hell" - all good stuff. Any others particularly worth watching? Haven't started properly on "The Veil" yet - they seem a bit crudely done. The "Jack the Ripper" episode sounds promising, but evidently had nothing to do with the series.

The Veil, is by comparison with Thriller, not very good. Thriller is excellent. The first 10 episodes or so are more about gangsters and the like but after that it kicks into gear and nearly every episode is supernatural based. If you have watched 'Pigeons From Hell' then you have seen Thriller's best and most celebrated episode.

My personal favorite THRILLER episodes include "A Wig for Miss Devore," "The Incredible Dr. Markesan" (one of the episodes actually featuring Boris Karloff in the action), "The Remarkable Mrs. Hawk," and anything with Henry Daniell (a character actor of the old school I get to see far too seldom). "Pigeons from Hell" is very good but "Devore" and "Hawk" are tied for personal all-time favorite--it is really a matter of temperament, not because I think on some objective level that they're somehow better.
There is also a wonderful one that might have been the last episode shown which is two 25 minute segments featuring a particular actress whose name escapes me--the theme of both stories is the "gentle sex" getting her revenge on stepped-up males who are far too full of themselves. Not really feminist, just showing women can be every bit as ingeniously nasty as men.
Happy viewing!
