Well, not quite, but in the Halloween issue of BeanoMAX, the Beano's monthly spin-off, there's a 4 page story entitled "Doctor Beastly's Tales of the Slightly Unpleasant" which has one or two little Jamesian in-jokes snuck in and is also a tiny tribute to ghost story anthologies in general, with a Victorian ancestor of Roger the Dodger trading in his dodge books for a library full of books of ghost stories (Sadly, a word balloon concealed the copy of "The Black Book of Horror" that was on a shelf in the story, next to "The Off-White Book of Terror". Digging out the script, it was to have been "The Black Book of Horror", "The Off-White Book of Terror" and "The Greeny-Brown Book of Mild Irritation". Also missed out or covered up are "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde- The Unauthorised Autobiography", "Oi, Whistle and I Will Swing For You, My Lad", "101 Tips for Grooming Your Werewolf" and "Dental Care for Vampires" by Flossy Fangs. Though "The Cheeky Monkey's Paw" is present and correct). And the Beano website has got a Halloween theme, with some vintage spooky strips somewhat rewritten; www.beanotown.com/index.php?s=toonStuff&c=toonStuff-Content&id=1406

Thanks for re-posting this, Lurks. It was the last thread to take off on the old Vault and Vincent Scarybloke helped us through a depressing final week. Here. Those of you who are yet to do so, check out the Beanotown site. *BTW. I scanned in the cover for Best Of Ghosts & Scholars. *

I must admit, Vincent Scarybloke is far the more chilling of the pair, although The Horribly Horrible House Of Deadly Doom is damn near pulse-stopping. Loved the bitching portraits on the Gallery wall! I've bookmarked the page for the Bride to look over when she eventually rises from the slab. She thinks Vincent is lovely, so you might have further comment later.

Hallowe'en is done and dusted - though it's always Hallowe'en here at the Vault - but The Beano site had a bunch of ho-ho-horrors and fiendish fun, including a downloadable tale of sinister sea-faring shenanigans from dear old Doctor Beastly that might raise a chilling chuckle... www.beano.com/characters/dennis-gnasher/fun-zone/halloween-house-of-horrors! E.T.A. Curses, the exclamation mark at the end of the URL means the link doesn't work. Cut and paste into the address bar if anyone wants to get menaced.
