Hi, guys. Thanks so much for your kind words about the site. It's been a labour of love, and sometimes I don't have the time to dedicate to it that I would like, but it's ever-evolving and I would welcome any suggestions for other things to include. Richard Hi Richard, lovely to hear from you. One suggestion; perhaps eventually you could add a list of the books and magazine's your dad has contributed to? I would love to see a cover scan of The Story Of Water, if at all possible! Thank you for putting together the site, and please pass on our regards to Mr. Lamb senior.

Richard Hi Richard, lovely to hear from you. One suggestion; perhaps eventually you could add a list of the books and magazine's your dad has contributed to? Hugh has been and continues to be a massive supporter of G&S and a great friend. Here's a list (complete, I think), of everything he's contributed:
Hugh Lamb in Ghosts & Scholars"The James List", G&S 1 (1979) "Frederick Cowles, 1900-1948" (article in the "Writers in the James Tradition" series), G&S 6 (1984) "The Experiment" (how Hugh rediscovered this MRJ story), G&S Newsletter 16 (2009) Letters in G&S 16 (1993), 17 (1994) and 26 (1998); G&S Newsletter 4 (2003), 10 (2006), 20 (2011) and 25 (2014). Hugh also had a short piece in The James Gang: A Bibliography of Writers in the M.R. James Tradition booklet of 1991.

Several of the W. H. Allen books were published in US editions by Tapplinger, and Dover have recently reissued a number under new titles (e.g., Victorian Nightmares becomes A Bottomless Grave And Other Victorian Tales of Horror) Equation Chillers series In the Dark: Tales of Terror by E. Chambers - Out of the Dark: Volume One: Origins (Ash-Tree Press, 1998) Also of interest is Barbara & Christopher Roden (eds.) - Forgotten Ghosts: The Supernatural Anthologies of Hugh Lamb (Ash-Tree, 1996): i've not seen a copy, but the contents are as follows: Barbara & Christopher Roden - Foreword Mike Ashley - Introduction
H. Rider Haggard - Only A Dream Frank Norris - The Ship That Saw A Ghost C. D. Heriot - The Trapdoor Elizabeth Stuart Phelps Ward - Kentucky’s Ghost W. L. George - WaxworksThere was an early version of the E. Nesbit anthology published by Magnet as Tales Of Terror in 1983. A decent enough effort though hardly indispensable as it only compiles 7 stories (as opposed to the Equation edition's 14) Hugh also contributes a fine essay, Victorian Terror, to Gaslight & Ghosts, Stephen Jones & Jo Fletcher's mish-mash collection published by Robinson to celebrate the 1988 World Fantasy Convention. Mike Ashley wrote an enlightening piece on the Not At Night series for the same book. His first book was The Story Of Water, a sixteen page effort published by the National Water Council which appeared prior to A Tide Of Terror and may even have run to a second edition. Hugh Lamb UK Anthologies: A-Z by authors John Mains' recent interview with Hugh is at All Things Horror For the covers and contents we've yet to get around to, see VaultWordPress Thanks to Ripper for getting the ball rolling! Has anyone read Forgotten Ghosts: The Supernatural Anthologies of Hugh Lamb? It was also released as a CD in 2010. I would love to read the Introduction by Mike Ashley. Foreword by Barbara Roden and Christopher Roden Introduction by Mike Ashley Only a Dream by H. Rider Haggard The Ship That Saw a Ghost by Frank Norris The Trapdoor by C. D. I've only skimmed over Mike Ashley's Introduction but it confirms my impression that, given the time period, Hugh Lamb's anthologies were the most important in terms of resurrecting the type of short horror story covered in Vault of Evil.

No. Oh. Regarding lambs I once tackled a grown sheep onto the ground. The sheep was very greasy. Does this interest you?

I have this odd thing where I confuse Hugh Lamb for Harold Lamb. Have you seen a neurologist? Mind you, until very recently I thought Larry Lamb was the sheep from Toytown. Apparently he's an actor.

This thread is hilarious! I've never heard of Harold or Larry Lamb.
Because of the silence of the Lambs, of course...

Ah, dear old Larry Lamb. Sun kissed hunk of the legendary Triangle. The programme that forever enshrined the timeless glamour of....er.., the North Sea ferry.

I have this odd thing where I confuse Hugh Lamb for Harold Lamb. I thought you might find this of interest. You think you've got problems. EVERY time I try to type Hugh Lamb (like now), I invariably type Huge Lamp by mistake and have to correct it. One of these days Huge Lamp is going to turn up in G&S (or possibly I'll actually be writing about a Huge Lamp and it'll come out as Hugh Lamb). I hope you realise what torture it was for me to type this post!!!
