Hello again!
Tapping on the infinite genius of Vault, who recently identified the anthology 'Uncanny' that I read as a child, I have another recollection of an anthology read years ago. I'm pretty sure it was a 'Fontana' but cant seem to match it with any of Dem's summaries.
There was a great story in it called (I think) 'Now Showing At The Ritz' which was about two rival cinemas trying to out do each other and attract more bums on seats with increasingly ghoulish random 'booby traps' - every hundreth choc-ice poisoned, that kind of thing. I'm sure there was also a story in it called 'Acid Test' - although definitely not the Pan 10 'Acid Test'
I put these posts up out of a genuine interest in tracking the books down again, but also definitely as a means to marvel at the wonderful knowledge of Vault.
Ringing any bells?
Cheers all,
Colin

Thank you most kindly, and thank you too Dem.
Must track this down again - any story called 'The Devil's Ape' must be worth a read!

The story is "Now Showing At The Roxy" (not the "Ritz") and is by one Harry E Turner, a name otherwise not known to me.
It can be also be found in the Danby-edited 65 GREAT TALES OF HORROR, which were of course all sourced from the Fontanas in the first place.
