.. which (apologies in advance for hijacking the thread) reminds me. Any progress on The Faceless? I think when last we left them two-fisted Terry and the adorable Elspeth were heading down Whitechapel way to mix it with the bad guys? >>
The simple answer is economics Dem. THE FACELESS didn't sell well enough to *rush* a sequel/continuation - but that doesn't mean we won't pull it off. If anybody is holding things up it's me. I got an offer in to draw a three part story for Dr Who Magazine - in full colour - in Terry Suharp style. The subject a Hammer film style story. I couldn't refuse financially or artistically - but it's taking up to 6 months to complete. After that I may go back to colouring comics for awhile - it's less strenuous mentally - but Terry and Elspeth's adventures are on my mind and I THANKYOU for keeping my spirits up about the topic and REMINDING me.
thanks pal...

Cheers Dem - was pencilled in for the Lory ish I think - but that one escaped me! Have pencilled up the cover ( mostly) inbetween other pressing gigs. Hopefully should be done by mid month. In the meantime here's YOR - something I just knocked out for a pal. Let's not be coy about phallic symbolism shall we! ade

Fanatic 3 is nearing completion. Just being proof-read and waiting for a cover from the talented Killer Crab, before going off to the printers. >>
As usual I'm holding things up - but Justin has approved my *rough* - which I ain't gonna post - so don't ask -lol Needless I'm fitting in this piece between my assignments which all have reasonably pressing deadlines.
The cover should be worth the wait Justin.
thanks

According to the old site there's also a sequel, The Mirror of Dionysos, so that's now on my 'to find' list. >>
MIRROR sees Lawson sent to cover a carnival in Munich. There's some weird shit where he ends up as a gladiator in ancient Rome - is it real or arcane? I loved WITCHFINDERS alot and very much enjoyed reading more of Lawson's adventures! Cullender is back too - defintely worth seeking out Sev( I've purposely not posted spoilers).

Got the werewolf trilogy recently - not read them yet! Can't recall if we've ever reviewed them in detail at Vault?

GNS brought us three great pulp icons - the Crabs , the Slime Beast and the Birmingham Bats out of Hell. The Imageshack image needs to be linked to for some reason.

You're lucky to run across a copy Dem! Certain GNS just don't turn up around here barring NIGHT OF THE CRABS! I've not seen any of the werewolf books either and refuse to remortgage for an online bookseller copy! I've got too many books anyway and *might* be letting some go to willing homes - slimming down my choatic collection to specialise for awhile.

The Haunting of Gad's Hall - Norah Lofts. CORONET 1981.
Blurb - something about a locked room hiding a shameful secret. The medium says :' What I am about to say may sound ridiculous , but it is there in that attic: devil worship , demonic possession, ritual slaughter and suicide.'
Ridiculous indeed...
SHE - H.Rider Haggard
The cover got me to part with 50p.
SCIENCE FICTION MOVIES - Philip Strick. Galley Press 1979.
Lacking it's dustjacket - this is typical of genre movie books of the 1970's. It never ceases to amaze me the wealth of stills these books hold - many I'd guess now lost in antiquity. I was thrilled to see a still from Hammer's THE REPTILE included - that I'd not seen anywhere else. I know - it's not science fiction - but who cares. Cost - 49p...

"The Major TV serial" is what it says on the Quatermass cover, >>
It will be the book adaption of the final Quatermass story penned by Kneale ( unless you count the later MEMOIRS radio series). It was broadcast by Thames television in 1979. I have this book too.

Both VAMPIRE CIRCUS and TWINS OF EVIL sport hot pink titles. Trying to remember if LUST FOR A VAMPIRE does too!

Killdozer. Not seen it myself. I think Haining may even have used the story in one of his later collections? >>
It's bonkers in a good way. Apparently Marvel comics did an adaption too of Sturgeon's tale. The film though low on budget is a thoroughly competant piece of work - tightly edited with all round strong performances - big Clint Walker is tops as the recovering alcoholic who really probably need a swig to tackle the alien killer dozer! The highlight is when the killdozer with red eyes(lights) blazing locks horns with a crane driven by one of the macho men.
Recommeded oh yes!

I feel both shocked and a little older today. Peter Haining symbolised the anthology format to me - and thanks to VOE - I know a little more about his life's work. Back when I was a kid - I didn't really collect anthologies - though Pater's name was one that frequently stared up at me from the shelves. I did get the Dracula Scrapbook and know he penned one the earliest books on Dr Who . My modest book collection does now hold a selection of anthologies edited by Peter Haining I'm glad to say - thanks to the enthusiasm of this forum. I think it's places like this , where fans can gather , that pays testement to the importance of his work.
