I'm still waiting for someone else to read them. Someone has reviewed some of them on Amazon. Presumably that person has read them.

You see, the mole people are immortal because they've consumed the Elixir of Life that the sinister aristocrat brewed from his beloved fungi. They still dress in their 19th-century servant clothes and dwell in a quaint underground Victorian village. Thanks; it all makes sense now.

"End of the Line" is my favorite of the Misty serials I've read so far. I'm a sucker for any story about a girl breaking out of a mental hospital to prove that her supposedly dead father has been enslaved by an ageless mad mycologist aristocrat who rules over a society of white-eyed mole people in a hidden Victorian-era underground tunnel. Ann never gives up on her search, not even when she plunges into an underground cistern, is forced to work as a maid for the evil Lord Sefton, and winds up locked in a cage with no food. Lucy, the mole-girl parlor maid who helps her, makes for an adorable sidekick. Say what?

There's also more moral complexity than I would've expected. Oh, there will be more of that. This is not your standard "gothic romance."

But they are the original texts, because they are what Lovecraft agreed to put his name on for publication. Agreed? I hardly think so in quite a few important instances. Why so much anger?

Anyway, I finally ordered myself a copy of The Legend of the Seventh Virgin. I have high expectations! I am excited! I cannot wait to hear what you think of it!

In this case I meant that the WT texts already were not the original texts any longer. But they are the original texts, because they are what Lovecraft agreed to put his name on for publication. On the subject of editors, specifically copy-editors, there are counterexamples. I am very fond of the writings of somebody named Rebecca Cantrell, who has been self-publishing for a number of years. Her self-published stuff, while it might not be great literature, is entirely free of typos and other kinds of mistakes, something rarely seen from large publishing houses these days.

Even the WT texts were of course edited. Editors serve a purpose, you know. Among sensible people, the standard edition of an author's work is considered to be what was published in his lifetime. Not so in fandom.

He has been busy producing new versions of Lovecraft's writings for quite a while, as you must have noticed. Certainly, but where has he sought to claim copyright on them? Presumably he charges money for the use of his supposedly "correct" versions. What other point might there be to this activity?

To be sure! For instance, he is also somebody trying to acquire copyright in Lovecraft's texts. Where do you see that happening? He has been busy producing new versions of Lovecraft's writings for quite a while, as you must have noticed.

Joshi is not an academic. He is an H P Lovecraft "fanboy." He's a great deal more than that. To be sure! For instance, he is also somebody trying to acquire copyright in Lovecraft's texts.

By academic I mean somebody affiliated with a university. You don't have to be affiliated with a university to be an able critic of any subject you're interested in. Of course not. But I was pointing out that Joshi is not an academic, as somebody seemed to mistakenly believe.

He's a great deal more than that. He is more than a fanboy. If by academic you mean the type of critic who bends over backwards to find significance where none is intended, I'm glad he's not an academic. By academic I mean somebody affiliated with a university.
