John Saul – Second Child (Bantam Books, 1990, 341 pages) Cover: Bob Hickson Cover found on the net. Thanks to the original scanner. Beware the second child. This lush, secluded Maine seaside resort is the summer playground of the superrich, but one hundred years ago, something disturbed their play. Horror came to this village. And though no one knows it yet, the horror has never left. It waits for a shy young girl, outcast by her friends, her beautiful sister, even her own mother. She knows how it feels to be unwanted. She knows anger. And soon she will know the touch of unholy terror--and the rage of blood-drenched vengeance. In 1990 Saul had published 12 successful novels and was at prestigious publisher Bantam. Gone were the more genre orientated covers, it was the dawn of the age of bland graphics. While in Germany at the time Saul due to his success was published in the mainstream imprints, covers were still sometimes in the horror tradition. Here is the first edition cover of this novel. The title was a bit more on topic, the novel was called "Satanic Sister". Cover: G. Mangoni
Saul was published in translations up to 2007. His last two books didn't find a publisher.
