S. T. Joshi – Ramsey Campbell Master of Weird Fiction (PS Publishing, 2022, 327 pages) Contents: Preface My Roots Exhumed, By Ramsey Campbell I. Biography and Overview II. The Lovecraftian Fiction III. The Demons By Daylight Period IV. The Transformation of Supernaturalism V. Dreams and Reality VI. Horrors of the City VII. Paranoia VIII. The Cild as Victim and Villain IX. Micellaneous Writings
Conclusion Bibliography IndexThis is a critical overview of the work of Ramsey Campbell by S. T. Joshi. To comment such a vast body of work in one volume is a difficult task. In his preface Joshi describes the problems of this and his approach, choosing a thematical route and not a chronological. After reading the first three chapters this makes sense. Personally I am more interested in a critical analysis of the short stories, but naturally the novels take the same or more space. While Joshi advises the reader that the summarys are very detailed, after reading the first chapters I still was surprised how detailed in places. I am looking forward to reading the rest.
