I am looking for a horror or ghost anthology I read between 1990- 1996,I should think published between 1980 and then. It was a UK anthology and the stories were set in the UK.The story I remember was about a boy who was nearly lured in the river by a river-hag, clearly based on Jenny Greenteeth but I think might have been called Meg or Mag in the story. I would think this was aimed at middle schoolers so scary rather than horrific. Any ideas would be very welcome! I have looked through the forums here but haven't spotted any books that sounds right or looks familiar, although found some other old favourites.

Hi. Can you recall anything about the cover painting/ photo? Paperback or hardcover? It does sound familiar, though I think there may be a number of stories based along similar lines.

I'm afraid I don't remember anything about the book itself, only the story. I suspect based on the other stuff I was reading its an anthology along the Jan Mark/Joan Aiken/Aidan Chambers kind of style, but havent seen a story that leaps out on their bibliographies at being the one.

Best I can suggest is that you might want to bookmark this thread and check it from time to time? It doesn't always work out, but we've been known to identify a story several months after the original enquiry.

I have now found this. The story was Foxgloves, by Susan Price, in the anthology Thirteen Again.

I have now found this. The story was Foxgloves, by Susan Price, in the anthology Thirteen Again. Thank you for letting us know. It seems I read - and enjoyed - most of Thirteen Again but didn't get around to that particular story. Will try put that right before the week's out.
