Shaun Hutson - Compulsion (Mcmillan, 2001, hc, 399 pages)
In 2001 Shaun Hutson was still with Mcmillan. This novel is about a gang of youths who terrorize some old people. But they get their horrible revenge. Here Hutson tried to pare down his writing even more. A lot of the pages are filled only with paragraphs consisting of one sentence. It may speed up the pace, but also makes everything a bit too fast for its own good. No meat on the bones any longer, so to speak.
On Hutson's webpage there is a scene which was cut from the novel. Basically they toned down a mutilation scene at the end and excised a few paragraphs.
