Stefan R. Dziemianowicz, Martin H. Greenberg, Robert Weinberg – The Mists From Beyond (Roc, 1993, Hc, 350 pages; this edition paperback 1995) Content:
Stefan Dziemianowicz - Introduction Charles Dickens - The Trial for Murder (1929; variant of To Be Taken with a Grain of Salt 1865) Ambrose Bierce - The Middle Toe of the Right Foot (1890) Bram Stoker - The Judge's House (1891) Edith Wharton - Afterward (1910) Fritz Leiber - Smoke Ghost (1941) Ray Bradbury - The Crowd (1943) Graham Greene - A Little Place Off the Edgware Road (1939) Shirley Jackson - The Daemon Lover (1949) Robert Bloch - The Man Who Collected Poe (1951) Madeleine L'Engle - Poor Little Saturday (1956) John Updike - The Indian (1963) John D. MacDonald - The Legend of Joe Lee (1964) Davis Grubb - Cry Havoc (1976) Joyce Carol Oates - Night-Side (1977) Donald E. Westlake - This Is Death (1977; variant of In at the Death) Philip José Farmer - The Making of Revelation, Part I (1980) David Morrell - But at My Back I Will Always Hear (1990; variant of But at My Back I Always Hear 1983) Harlan Ellison - Laugh Track (1984) Clive Barker - Confession of a (Pornographer's) Shroud (1984) Peter Straub - The Ghost Village (1992)
This is some curious packaging. Half of this is pre-war and even pre-1900, and to put writers like Dickens, Oates and Jackson under "17 others", well ...

Solid enough collection with lots of big names—although I agree, the cover seems to promise modern horror and not the same ghost stories we’ve all read before. It would be a good book for a newcomer though.
