Received this from Chris Mikul, the guy behind Biblio Curiosa and Bizarrism - haven't had a chance to read it yet, but it looks like a suitable strange book:

Nabbed Philip Wylie's The Murderer Invisible, and the short story collections Invisible Men and Zacherley's Vulture Stew.

2 bucks from the junk shop. I read Swansong last year and liked it, so I'm looking forward to this one.

Aside from Usher's Passing this is my favorite McCammon. It is so over the top and a bit rambling (or a lot, depending on your taste), but it is such a blockbuster movie.

That particular Sphere edition of "They Thirst" was probably the very first McCammon I read, almost thirty (!) years ago. I remember thinking at the time that it was the most barking-mad, completely over-the-top vampire novel I had ever read. It was a lot of fun, and was indeed a "Blockbuster movie" of the mind. Hope that you enjoy it, James. Mark

Couple of other decent finds, at the Salvos store: Douglas Greene's Biography of John Dickson Carr for $4 And this curiosity - a magazine published by Horwitz in 1977 of J.E. Macdonnell naval stories, for 20 cents. Not really my cup of tea, but I've never seen it before - the title could have been used in the Horwitz Adults series.

It is quite some time ago that our esteemed vaultkeeper Dem has posted something. Has anybody heard something?

It is quite some time ago that our esteemed vaultkeeper Dem has posted something. Has anybody heard something? No, but, as you know, it has happened before.

I last spoke to Kevin Demant at the funeral of Charles Black when he said that, after Charles' death, he hadn't felt like visiting the Vault, he was so upset. It really did hit him hard, perhaps especially as he was with Charles only the day before he died, visiting him in the hospice with John Probert. I am sure that once the grieving has abated he will be back here again. It is just a matter of time.

Mark The first McCammon I read was Mystery Walk, when it came out in the mid-80s. I must have liked it, because I then read all his earlier ones ( Baal, Bethany's Sin, The Night Boat, and They Thirst) - but I don't really remember much about any of them now.
