Thank you for the update, David. I look forward to reading his posts again when he'd ready, and wish him the best in tough times until then. I'm sure we all agree on that.... My sentiments exactly.

Found for a quid today in the local junk shop. Not in the greatest of nicks, but I think I'm right in saying an uncommon book to come across these days. Large SF stock currently on sale in the Quintos basement btw. A smaller but still interesting horror section there this month too. Multiple copies of Hugh Lamb's NEW TALES OF TERROR paperback to be found there for instance.

Nice! Looks like he wrote a couple more in the late '80s.

Nice! Looks like he wrote a couple more in the late '80s. He also wrote several as John Tigges (think that may have been his real name?), including Vessel (return of Countess Bathory), and the nuns in peril shocker, Garden Of The Incubus.

James, there's something so hilarious and perfect about that cover and its text. Foreshadowing deathmetal image, title Spawn of Satan, over the top blurb by Wheatley referencing Poe. I love it. Thanks!

Is that Theodore Sturgeon line a quote or a story title? He sounds puzzled or faintly indignant.

Decent haul at the southside junkshop - these for $4 the lot. I wonder if this is such a hard book to find as prices suggest:

That is the Crowley bio by Wilson? Never saw it. Thanks for sharing.
I wonder if it is better accessible then a lot of these other bios of the guy.

Two recent acquisitions from a charity shop. Both distributed in 2004 by someone participating in bookcrossing.com ('I'm a very special book. I'm travelling around the world making new friends'). Since then they've made it half way down the local High Street. Although the Leiber looks more like SF it is horror, though not his finest. The Third Grave is a fairly run of the mill mummy story, seriously hampered by its rather over- structured language (at first sight this looks like cod-Victorian, but is acutually a US author having a go at contemporary UK English). The edition itself is lovely, with Arkham House pushing the boat out on illustration and print quality.

I wonder if it is better accessible then a lot of these other bios of the guy. It's certainly readable, but as with all of Colin Wilson's books, it's really about Colin Wilson.
