A couple of comic strip stories I remember reading as a boy circa 1971, give or take a couple of years, and would love to know where I read them. Both, I think, were from US comics, but not absolutely certain of that, and they were one-offs, not part of a serial or series. Just on the off-chance that someone might recognise them...
1. A museum holds several old biplanes and they are scheduled to be disposed of, to the consternation of a museum employee. Before this happens, Earth is invaded by alien spacecraft and modern weapons, including aircraft, are useless against them as the aliens have the ability to affect metal--or something like that. To the rescue come the old wood, canvas and string biplanes as they are unaffected by the aliens' rays. Not sure why the biplanes' metal engines and guns weren't affected but that is all I can remember.
2. A comic strip retelling of the 1955 Kelly-Hopkinsville, Kentucky close encounter of 1955, when a group of alien creatures were purported to have laid siege to a farmhouse and the occupants fired at them with guns. I think this story was also depicted on the comic's cover.
