Quick Intro. My reading habits began in the early 80's with Ian Fleming and various horror collections (Octopus' Tales From The Grave was my first) - introducing me to the likes of Le Fanu, E.F.Benson, Maupassant, M.R.James, Bloch, Doyle, Chetwynd-Hayes and Poe among others. It was a good first choice as it turned out as it has many stories which are still among my favourites - Green Tea, Mrs Amworth, Yours Truly, Jack The Ripper and The Black Cat. 65 Great Tales Of The Supernatural and Realms Of Darkness (from St Michael) and Chamber Of Horrors and Haunting Ghost Stories (from Octopus) soon followed. I have the complete Fontana Horror, Ghost Stories and Terror collections as well as the complete Pan Horror. I've just got through all 17 volumes of the Fontana Horror (I will post my findings soon) and have just started the more superior Ghost Story set. Along the way I've become a big fan of Sheridan Le Fanu (spent years trying to buy all his novels and short stories before finally giving up when the complete works appeared on Kindle), E.F.Benson, Hugh Walpole, Conan Doyle, Guy de Maupassant, Stevenson, Poe, Robert Aickman, Mary Danby, Dorothy K.Haynes, Chetwynd-Hayes etc.
Outside of the genre, my number one writer is easily Somerset Maugham (who wrote a few good dark stories himself). I don't know of any writer who can create such fascinating characters and place them in such a clearly defined setting and pull you into his world so rapidly - often just a paragraph. Ian Fleming will always remain another favourite, along with D.H.Lawrence and Hardy.
Fortunately, as I've a pretty dire memory, I've jotted down a couple of sentences on every novel and short story I've ever read and marked them out of 10. I'm sure this will serve me well for The Vault!
Will be a regular contributor to the forum. Here's to 2016...

Very pleased to have another Fontana fan around.
