Just re-read it. Probably my least favourite of Campbell's stuff. The constant threat to the child by the parents starts to get a little depressing after a while.
(years on I think I appreciate the effect the story had on me more)

Jay Ramsey (Ramsey Campbell) - Claw (Futura 1983, 367 p.) CLAW
Unknowingly he brought it home - beautiful, hypnotic, ancient - the sacred symbol of the fabled Leopard Men of Africa
CLAW
Unsuspected, it would insinuate its way into his mind and weave bloody destruction through his home.
CLAW
Unresisted, it would demand the brutal sacrifice of his beloved six-year-old daughter. Then - perhaps - it would leave ...
CLAW
WILL MAKE YOUR BLOOD RUN COLD
This one was missing in the Vault. The cover of this first edition is a bit subtle.

Later paperback, revised edition (?) Ramsey Campbell - The Claw (Warners, 1992. Originally published as Claw by 'Jay Ramsey', Macdonald, London, 1983, Futura, 1983) Blurb: Unknowingly, he brought the claw home. Beautiful, hypnotic, ancient, it was the sacred – and deadly – talisman of the fabled Leopard Men of Africa.
Unsuspected, it would insinuate its way into his mind, bringing horrifying destruction into his home. And unresisted, it would finally demand an unbelievable sacrifice.
And then – perhaps – it would leave ... THE CLAW

Apologies! I somehow missed your question here. No, I revised the book heavily before publication, and all editions are the same (though does this one include an afterword?)

Thomas, by posting here you have invoked the attention of Gla'aki, never a desirable experience. Be wary of the dark once night falls, and scrutinise it constantly.

Thomas you are doing this wrong. You should have a Chinese or Indonesian sounding name and write bad English. Please try harder next time.

Oh, yes, this one most certainly includes an afterword, which suggests you were briefly considering a surrogate career in Gothic romance. Please elaborate!

Not a career in Gothic romance but just a contribution, given how uncompromised Thom's contribution was. I didn't have a specific idea in mind.
