Hello! I've been registered here for more than a year now, but I'm a horrible procrastinator so I never got around to introducing myself. I originally found this board through a Google search on Charles Birkin, after reading T.E.D. Klein's not-really-a-recommendation of him in the Penguin Encyclopedia of Horror & the Supernatural. The threads here persuaded me to buy The Kiss of Death (it was only the first), and I'm happy to say convinced me to return to horror fiction for the first time in years. (Why didn't anybody tell me earlier the older stuff was usually better?) So, thanks, Vault. I'll probably only post when I have something potentially useful to add - I promise it won't happen too often

Klein's "tricked up sadism" anti-endorsement isn't that wide of the mark, but Sir Charles would likely have had three pages devoted to him if fellow admirers Hugh Lamb or Mike Ashley had been commissioned to write that piece.

Happy New Year to all of you as well! Here's hoping 2013 brings us plenty of new books worthy of discussion here. Very pleased to welcome another Birkin fan aboard. Klein's "tricked up sadism" anti-endorsement isn't that wide of the mark, but Sir Charles would likely have had three pages devoted to him if fellow admirers Hugh Lamb or Mike Ashley had been commissioned to write that piece. Oh well, at least we know we're in good company, huh?
