The people behind the Classic Horror Campaign www.classichorrorcampaign.com/ are holding an all day horror film fest in Brighton this December. I went to one of their events at the Komedia and had a great time, there’s a nice congenial atmosphere with all sorts of free giveaways, book signings etc. Rick and Sarah are keen to get a good selection of stalls for the day – particularly anyone with horror / film related stuff to sell or promote. Pitches are free and of course you get to see all the movies! Anyone with questions can email Rick direct on: cyberschizoidATyahoo.co.uk (replacing the AT with an @ of course). Come along and support Classic Horror! Frighten Brighton. frightenbrighton.wordpress.com/

Sounds brilliant & deeply frustrating for those of us at the other end of the country who won't be able to make it...(FX - Grinding Teeth).

Oh that’s a shame, but they do events in London too at the Roxy Bar and Screen, if that’s any easier to get to? The next one’s in March:

Not today I’m afraid Though I do like the Roxy as a venue and plan to go to more of the London events in the future.

Unfortunately it got cancelled (didn't find out until i got there, due to not having anything to do with twitter, etc.) due to organisers getting stuck in Brighton.
One of the Roxy staff said it was being refunded/rescheduled (not sure which), but she didn't have any more information. Seen tweets from Sarah about rescheduling (don't need to have an account to read them), but there's nothing on the Classic Horror Campaign website as of writing (will check back later), so I'm not sure wether I need to contact anyone or not (tickets booked on suggested site link, so it's separate).
Not a complete loss though, as I got a one day travel card & looked in on spitalfields & camden in the morning (was doing so anyway, to make the most of travelcard, last coach from Victoria would have been 7.30 pm, which might have meant leaving early). Picked up Varney The Vampyre, Wagner The Werewolf & The Right Hand of Doom wordsworth titles from Book Warehouse in Camden.

Good news, I checked we got tickets site & ticket refunded. As everyone speaks so well of the events, I haven't let it put me off & certainly want to book for whenever the re-scheduled event is.

pleased to hear it, Dave, and i'm glad Sunday wasn't a total waste. i'm guessing you had a look on Mark's stall in Spitalfields? He's the guy with all the 70's annuals & tie-ins. very pleasant chap, have had some terrific Hammer/ Wheatley/ Sexton Blake stuff from him down the years, better than reasonable prices, too. Such a shame Milan no longer has his all-conquering stall though.

Not sure if it was Mark's stall, it was a little after 9, so most places hadn't set up & it appeared to be the only bookstall. Mostly penguins on the stall, but I found 'The Penthouse Conspirators' by Chapman Pincher (NEL) for £2 & Villiers De L'Isle-Adam - 'Cruel Tales' (Oxford) for 50p.

Speaking of Spitalfields – I’ve heard the market now hosts a regular book fair alongside the record fair? Is that so and has anyone been to it?

Speaking of Spitalfields – I’ve heard the market now hosts a regular book fair alongside the record fair? Is that so and has anyone been to it? hi Sara. If i'm not very much mistaken, that will be the Wednesday market which has been advertised as a books and records fair for at least six years. The truth is, it's 99% CDs and vinyl. On my recent visits, there have been just the two bookstalls: the chap who specialises in Penguin originals and another fellow who deals almost exclusively in old hardbacks. Worth dropping by if you happen to be in the area, but i'm thinking Sunday is still best as you can also take in what's left of Brick Lane market.

Oh well, thanks for the info anyway – I'd found a flyer on the train a few months back advertising a book fair / record fair there with a name and mobile number (which I’ve since lost of course) and I couldn’t find anything out about it on-line. Sounds like it hasn't quite taken off yet then!

will pick up one of the flyers for you next week if they've still handing 'em out. it really hasn't been the same since Milan moved on. His stall (pre-Type) alone justified the 'book fair' tag.
