The Five Mile Press (2004)45 RIVETING TRUE STORIES EVERY AUSTRALIAN SHOULD KNOWThis unique anthology of the stories our history teachers wouldn't tell us includes:
- The fugitives whose favourite food was takeaway - his fellow escapers
- The granny who giggled while her victims died in agony
- The coral island awash with blood - a lifetime's nightmares in one gory day - for 105 successive days
- The oaf who - almost - conned England's richest family from its fortune
- The lady-killing cad who rivalled Jack the Ripper
- The monster of Norfolk Island
- Our first Australian idol, hanged for his sins, voluptuous Lola Montez, the gun molls whose kiss meant death, the gangsters who tried to kill our greatest sporting legend and the musical genius who sang of the joys of flagellation.
I'm having so much fun reading this book! Alexander Pearce, Australia's first serial killer and occasional cannibal leads the charge - but it appears he got tired of eating 'the other chicken' because he gave himself up knowing he'd be hanged! I would say that everyone should get a copy of this book if you are interested in all the criminals who made Australia...

The Five Mile Press (2004) AHHH, nice. Does it have that Deeming character in it, who upon being hanged for various murders was reported to have cried out "I am Jack the..." snap?
