Apologies if this has appeared elsewhere on the forum but it’s all in a good cause! I’ve been sent some info about a Brighton-based campaign to Bring Classic Horror Films Back to the BBC, in particular BBC2’s Saturday night horror double bills. “In a world where television has become so bland it is now impossible to find any of the classic old horror films being screened anywhere, even on the BBC. Back in the 70′s and 80′s BBC2 ran a popular season of Saturday night Horror Double Bills every summer, which was a showcase for all the best in classic horror as well as some more obscure cult movies. Kids and parents alike looked forward to these iconic screenings every weekend and many of today’s top horror writers, actors and producers have claimed to have been inspired by these Horror Double Bills. Our aim is to bring back these classic horror double bills to the BBC so that these iconic movie moments can be shared and appreciated by a whole new generation.”Here’s the website - bringclassichorrorbacktotelevision.blogspot.com/And here’s the Petition - www.ipetitions.com/petition/bringclassichorrorfilmsbacktothebbc/Fingers crossed for some decent horror on the telly this Christmas. sara

Fingers crossed for some decent horror on the telly this Christmas. sara i'm not holding my breath. seems like the M. R. James aficionado's are sharpening their hatchets in preparation for this radical reworking of "Oh, Whistle And I'll Come To You, My Lad" we keep hearing about, so that's obviously one 'must see'. The BBC2 Saturday Night 'Double Bills' in the 1970s are clearly remembered with great fondness by many of our contributors and i hope your petition sees plenty of support.

Regarding Whistle, it was ok, had its moments, but was nothing special. Either they should have either done a faithful adaptation or made it a proper piece of original drama rather than something that was somewhere between the two.
