Hey, you guys might want to take a look at this: www.britishfantasysociety.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&i d=592:british-fantasy-awards-2010-the-longlist&catid=34:bfas&Itemid=35 (you'll need to cut and paste the link as it's too long to copy properly here) The Vault is longlisted for a BFA (non-fiction)! ;D I think there might be a few other Vault members with things on the longlinst too. Well done folks!

Justin up for one too. Nice touch. Well done Dem!! Caroline - if you go to www.tinyurl.com you can put the long link in and it will shorten it for you - handy for forums etc...

It may well be the only thing that gets my vote this time.

Can't wait for Dem's thoughts on the nomination... I think I can second guess it but look forward to his official response.

Thanks, Craig, though I am beginning to think like Mark Samuels these days, and have not much time for these awards. I haven't voted in the Horror Writers Association Stoker Awards for two years now and, apart from the Vault, doubt very much if I will vote in the BFAs either.

I am beginning to think like Mark Samuels these days, and have not much time for these awards. David likewise but weirdly, i still found myself spitting nails at the absence of 5th Black Book Of Horror from the best anthology nominees - work that one out! Glad to see Rosalie Parker's In The Garden made the 'Best Short Story' list and Paul Mudie is up for 'Best Artist' on the strength of his outstanding work for volumes 4 & 5. Good luck to John Llewellyn Probert ( The Catacombs of Fear) and Daniel McGachey ( They That Dwell In Dark Places) in the Best Collections category, Lord P. again for ( At First Sight (Best Story) and, Paperback Fanatic (Best Magazine). As to Vault, well .... If the board had been "'nominated", i'd have put it to a vote, but as it was the inoffensive Vault WordPress blog i hope no-one will mind that i've requested the BFS remove it from consideration.

Thanks Mr D! I think it's unlikely I'll get as far as being on the shortlist as I never do, but I've learned to be brave about such things . I would have voted for the Vault, but this place is so obviously brilliant it doesn't need awards to make anyone realise that

After recent events, I've made it clear that I don't want my work to be considered for the BFS awards ever again. Same attitude towards the Stokers (which started the whole self-aggrandizement rot). Mark S.

It's horses for courses, isn't it? You don't think the awards are worth it, withdraw as soon as you're nominated (as has happened here). Otherwise, you play whatever game there is and enjoy it - I'm longlisted for short story, and I like the idea that being on the longlist may help publicise my work, so I'm happy to offer anyone in the BFS a pdf of the story for them to read and then, if they like it enough, hopefully they'll vote on the story for the shortlist. Is this shameless self promotion? Absolutely! Would I like to get on to the shortlist? Absolutely? Will it break my heart or send me into a furious, teeth-grinding, spitting rage if that doesn't happen? No.
Here's to enjoying the experience, whatever the experience ends up being!

S I was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, just like you, around five years ago, when I was up for my first BFS gong. Still, doubtless you'll have more award success than me. You're off to a flying start already, and have the ear of the right people on the inside. Good luck to you in your endeavour! The rest of us will having fish and chips on the pier and spitting blood as usual. Mark S.
