Nel horror 1990 - 2004
The unglamorous last years of New English Library. Haining and his disciples long gone, big fat novels, often 'tasteful' cover artwork ... But to overlook the post-eighties Nel's is to overlook Simon Clark, 'Michael Slade', Stephen Laws and Stephen Gallagher, all of whom are a bit tasty. This list isn't the least 'researched', it's mostly a case of what came to mind so if anyone cares to pad it out, please go ahead!
Stephen King - The Dark Half 1990 Carlene Thomson - Black for Remembrance 1990 Stephen Gallagher - Rain 1990 F. Paul Wilson - Reprisal 1991 Stephen Gallagher - The Boat House 1991 Daniel Rhodes - Kiss Of Death 1991 John Saul - Punish The Sinners 1992 Stephen King - Needful Things 1992 Nancy A Collins - In The Blood 1992 F. Ah, Steve Gallagher - now you're talking! There are a few others of his from NEL: Valley of Lights (not sure of date without looking it up) Down River (1989) Oktober (1988) Not sure if the paperback of Chimera was a NEL - I only have the hardback of this

yep, there was indeed a NEL Chimera - thanks for reminding me! Stephen Gallagher – Chimera (New English Library, 1991) Blurb: No School Until Further Notice.
The village schoolhouse is in use as a morgue. There has been a tragedy at the remote Jenner Clinic. It has always been a place of secrets — and now, something terrible has happened.
Meanwhile, high in the valley by Ravens’ Crag Farm, the Gaskell children reach home. The farmyard is quiet. The gate stands open. The Gaskell boy tugs at his sister’s sleeve. ‘Look,’ he says, and Sarah nods.
In the middle of the yard, the Strange Boy is waiting for them.
WAITING TO PLAYmight actually get around to reading it one day. i'm currently in the middle of a 'Michael Slade' revival - Ripper, Headhunter and Ghoul in quick succession. Must try to write at least one of 'em up as they're great sick fun and no mistake.
