I've been looking for Charles Black's Radios Appear thread, but it seems he didn't start a new one here. And you think you know someone... Anyway, Great Lives returns for a new run on Tuesday 1 April. Mark Gatiss of The League of Gentlemen champions the cause of his hero of horror, Peter Cushing. That's Radio 4, Tuesday 1st April, 4:30 p.m. Last week I heard that some of Peter Cushing's paintings had fetched a very respectable sum at auction. Here's a self-portrait which is pretty obviously based on his character in Tales From the Crypt. Peter Cushing by Peter Cushing And here's a link to The Peter Cushing Art Gallery

I'm glad you posted that, Rog. Mainly for that lovely painting but also because it ties in nicely with what I was about to post. I've been enjoying the BBC radio series, The Price of Fear, from the '70s. Presented by Vincent Price and featuring adaptations of stories old and new, ranging from Bram Stoker's "The Squaw" (adapted as 'Cat's Cradle') to R. Chetwynd-Hayes' "The Ninth Removal". The episode 'The Man Who Hated Scenes' (based on a short story by Robert Arthur) featured Peter Cushing. I've put a link to download it below, if anyone fancies listening to it. Maybe not my favourite episode but it's still a treat to hear Price and Cushing together. The Man Who Hated Scenes.mp3 (6.82 MB)

Radios Appear - is that a reference to the Radio Birdman album? Now I am going to have that Hawaii Five-O guitar break in my head all day...

Thanks for the information on the plays, Dr. Terror. I've been wanting to hear the Hodgson plays for a long time. I listened to Echoes from the Abbey last night and enjoyed it very much, and am looking forward to tonight's episode.

This seems to be the closest we have to a "Horror on the Radio" thread, and I felt I had to point you all to this collection of uploads on Internet Archive - archive.org/details/@thepalewriter?&sort=-publicdate&page=1There's BBC Radio collections of stories from Nigel Kneale, Robert Aickman, Dorothy K. Haynes, L.P. Hartley, E. Nesbit, Walter de la Mare, John Connolly, Algernon Blackwood, and others; there's BBC Radio compilations of ghost stories, vampire stories, werewolf stories; there's Lovecraft read by the likes of Roddy McDowall and David McCallum; loads of readings by Vincent Price - all available for download in mp3 and other formats.
