This has been driving me bats since you posted it. Can anyone identify?. That would be nice. On second thought I am no longer sure if this was really Bloch or if I confuse this with some other writer of those shorts. I took a long look at his bibliography, but no title rang a bell. That would be the story Lucifer by E. C. Tubb. Mr Happy |

Mr Happy Say what you will about Tubb, it is still a great and relevant story after all those years. Davis' TYBHS #1 + #2 found its way to Germany in the 70s, in different editions, albeit only as a selection. 10 stories out of 25 and only the shorter ones. I must have read it there and indeed confused it with Bloch.

I just read it. It is fun, but there seems to be a problem with its logic. What is stopping the protagonist from repeatedly using the ring, going back 57 seconds at a time, until the entire flight is undone? |

The moment the ring and its bearer is back in the past at the start of the 57 seconds, time naturally moves forward again. The clock is started again, a step forward in time. This creates a new start and naturally a unbridgeable time gap. A nanosecond would be enough to do this. |
