I have, I believe, the original paperback edition from 1985 or 1986 and another one from the mid-90s, and am currently reading the Kindle edition. Good to know that I am not the only one who does things like this. Priest seems to have deliberately created this for readers who will read all the different versions. It is a strange experience.

Priest's blog on his website is fascinating; recommended to all!

At least in one point he is right. Never give your books away without checking what is left between the pages.

At least in one point he is right. Never give your books away without checking what is left between the pages. Did you notice a note of creepy obsessiveness about the whole thing? Yes and no. I can relate that he still remembered every review. I guess every writer does. But I marvelled about his filing system. What an effort it must have been to find each and every review in the mainstream press. But the rest ... well.
