Interesting to see. I was unfamiliar with Der Orchideengarten, but an online source says it was the first illustrated fantasy magazine. Blog for this project here: derochideengarten.wordpress.com/Congratulations to all involved. Hel.

I notice several French writers in the contents of these. Also work by the brothers Äapek, and one by Fyodor Sologub. As this is a German language magazine I presume they are German translations. Did you translate these from the German texts to English? Also there are English language authors too, did you use the originals? It's a fascinating magazine, the art is very appealing.

Yes, the stories in Der Orchideengarten were all in German and many translated into German from other languages like French, Russian, English and Italian. I translate them from the German in the magazine into English and for those English speaking authors like Edgar Allan Poe for example I try to use the original English. John Hirschhorn-Smith of Side Real Press does the layout with the original artwork sans any ads or editorials. Meaning I've just published the stories and artwork to keep the costs down. As the world's first fantasy magazine there is a wide assortment of stories and writing styles by known and unknown authors which makes it even more interesting. . . It is a labor of love!
I fixed all the links so they should now work properly and apologize for that. By clicking on the link you can see the names of the authors and the titles of the stories for that particular issue!

I ordered issue 13 a few days ago. I suspect I'll be going back to order the others at some point - I'll have to see if I can bulk order and save on postage.

Lulu publishes in several countries so depending upon where you live the postage could well be local! Also ordering several at a time should also save postage. . . Some of the few advantages of POD. I know that postage is a killer these days. I am so glad I purchased my German editions of Ewers, Strobl, Busson and Przybyszewski back when it was cheaper!

I can recommend these publications - 30 pages (at least the issue I bought), with the last page being notes on the authors, excellent translations, double column text, the original illustrations (I assume), thick glossy pages. I bought this issue for the Gogol story, "The Devil's Coat", which was "The Fair at Sorochynski" from Evenings at a Farm Near Dikanka.

Interesting about the contribution from the works of the Chevalier de Florian. I wish you all the best with this endeavor. Helrunar I really liked that story as it reminded me of a lady I knew in Phoenix thirty years ago that I knew from the Rosicrucian Lodge there. She shared how when she was younger had a seizure, was pronounced dead and woke up on a slab in the morgue! So things like that have happened and do happen from time to time.
