Hello - I am doing an auction to help Red Cross Ukraine. 100% of all money goes directly to them. Raised £1,800 in under 24 hours. WHich is remarkable.
It ends on March 12th. If you want to have a look or bid, just read the guidelines first.
Got an insane lot coming in next day or so.
Ta!
Johnny

Thanks all. Couldn't just do nothing. Now at £3500. Just mindblowing.

Good on you Johnny. Wonderful work. And just to say that it takes seconds to make a donation using the Red Cross site, irrespective of whether you are bidding for something.

In a similar vein comes "206 Word Stories" from Bag of Bones Press. An anthology of 206 horror stories, all 206 words long (One per bone – there are 206 bones in the human body. I know, I learned them all at Medical School…). Buy it. Not because my story “Cold Caller” is one of the 206, but because all sale profits go to children’s charities, split 50/50 between charities in Britain and Ukraine. Here's the link.

Congratulations, Malcolm! I just previewed the electronic edition of the book on a popular online retail site, and it was cool to see your name in the table of contents.
Interesting idea for an anthology. I didn't know that there were 206 bones in the human body. Writing really short storyettes seems to be a popular activity these days. I'm sure you came up with something diabolically evil really fascinating with the format!
cheers, Steve

Yes, flash fiction pieces (or, as we used to call them, anecdotes) are increasingly popular. There seems to be no fixed definition but definitely less than 1,000 words. I mostly find it useful for OpenMic sessions, where the allocation is often only 5 minutes each. A flash piece can be read properly (i.e. not garbled) in that time so I tend to use it/them for "road testing" ideas.

Thanks for the link, it looks like a very interesting collection. I hope it sells well! Last week it was #1 in Am*z*n UK's best seller list for Horror Anthologies. Drifting down the Top 20 now, though.

Oh yeah, "flash fiction." It took a while for me to figure that that phrase didn't mean "tales or pastiches involving the infamous Harry 'Flash' Flashman."
Just my little joke. A couple of times in the past months or years, I've seen mention of people writing "stories" in five words only.
cheers, Hel

Final total was a staggering £14,666. Someone has kindly stepped forward and will donate £334 to take the total to £15,000. I started this hoping to raise a grand. That we got another 14k, every penny of which goes straight to the Red Cross is extraordinary.
