I just wish they'd put all these on a disk, sure there would be a market, same as all the ghosts and scholars, I've got 7 onwards, they are such a brilliant read

There was talk a few years ago of Ash tree doing a best of G&S - that may well still happen once AT builds up a head of steam again.

I did about two years ago, but she wasn't interested it's a shame, but i'm sure it would be a nightmare to tackle. i doubt anyone would agree, but what i'd like to see is all the MRJ-specific material from Ghost & Scholars compiled into one volume - format similar to that of Peter Haining's M. R. James Book Of The Supernatural (or even better, the NEL edition of The Dracula Scrapbook!). Publisher of choice, Taschen! Ash Tree could have the pick of what's left for the Best Of ..... as to the Haunted Library booklets, just had a check and i'm eleven short of a full run (it would be ten, but i inexplicably gave away Ron Weighell's The Empty House, as you do - i bet it's a sod to get hold of now. And the list above; if anyone can fill in the gaps, i'd appreciate the contents lists for Rick Kennett's The Reluctant Ghost-Hunter, the late Alan W. Lear's Spirits of Another Sort: Ghostly Tales of Tompion College, William I.I. Read's Call of the Tentacle (or was that a one off story?) and M. R. James's The Fenstanton Witch and Others (though i might be able to work that out for myself). it's heartening to see G. &. S and Haunted Library gettiing some attention on here as, Lurker's reviews apart, we've not done them justice.

I've got most of those, the Tompion College which I really enjoyed I've only seen one other story by Alan Lear, in a Fontana or Pan ghost story book. Got the Rick Kennet and the William Read My favourites would be the superb Ron Weighell ( we need a reprint of the White Road as well) and John Whitbourne, loved all the Binscombe tales, even managed to get my OH who doesn't read much to read both of the Ash Trees.
Would it be wrong to offer a Photocopy or scan?

well, put it this way; proboards wouldn't be too pleased with me if i encouraged it, and some of the authors in question might, understandably, get a bit shirty .... Did you get John Whitbourn's novel, Popes & Phantoms? i was crazy on him on the strength of about ten Biscombe Tales (never did get the AshTree collections), and that taster from Haunted Library was a treat, but - i still haven't got around to it! The Biscombe Tale i absolutely adored was I Could A Tale Unfold. i've not always got on with Steve Rasnic Tem's work, and i prefer my spectres absolutely rotten as a rule, but i'm fond of the sad and sweet valentine's day story in Absences. David Rowlands' The Apples Of Sodom, Ron Weighell's weird tale of a haunting at an underground station, The Tunnel of Saksaksalim, everything in A Graven Image ... i don't remember anything from The Moon Gazer or When The Door Is Shut, but seem to have enjoyed them at the time. In fact, the only one i wasn't so keen on was the Index to Ghosts & Scholars: 1- 15, which, on reflection would have benefited from a The James Gang Approach. It's some body of work.

There's a new Ron Weighell tale "The World Entire" in the Ex Occidente anthology Cinnabar's Gnosis, and a cracking read it is too! www.exoccidente.com/gnosis.htmlI think they're also planning to bring out a new collection by him. Indeed, his previous collection The White Road is magnificent. It cost me a pretty penny (and that was around five years ago) but well worth it. Mark S.

I read popes and Phantoms, again excellent stuff. He was meant to have another collection coming out via Ash Tree, but nopt heard anything for a while.
Spirits of Another Sort by Alan Lear Ghostly Tales of Tompion College Spirits of Another sort, Thirteen Down, Mo meets the Magus, 666 Styx street
The Reluctant Ghost Hunter by Rick Kennet Introduction, Alley Ghost, The Impromptu Seance, Time in a Rice Bowl
I have the Cinnabar Gnosis but haven't read any of it yet, I'll start with the Ron Weighell. I did hear that Ash Tree were going to reprint the White Road, but I think I'll have to break the bank soon and get a copy as I have throuroughly enjoyed everything I have read that he has written

Funnily enough, I'd recently been contemplating the notion of the back issues of G&S on CDRom - I bought the back issues of the (sadly defunct) 'Sherlock Magazine' in this format.
One of the problems, which is also an issue that affects the Ash Tree 'Best of' collection, is that Ro has lost contact with some of the authors over the intervening 30 years, and they would have to be found to grant permission to reprint their tales.

Thanks for filling in the blanks, eldric and lurks, will cut them into the original post when I get a chance. Have set aside the David Rowlands collection for a re-read once back into the swing of things. looking at it earlier and, one thing i'd forgotten about the earlier Ghosts & Scholars & Haunted Library booklets - they are bloody murder on the eyes!

Hello Everyone. This is my first post here and I hope no-one thinks me cheeky in asking this. I was a friend of the late Alan W Lear who wrote several stories for the Haunted Library Publications. After his death it was down to my husband and I to sort out his writings and his collection of books, musics and DVDs. All of it would been lost as he lived in a council house with no family that he was in touch with at the time of his death. Alan had suffered from an illness called M.E. (otherwise known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) for most of his adult life and that was how I came to know him as I also have this illness. I have several of Alan's stories in these Haunted Library Publications and others similar. I can list them if anyone is interested. I am wanting to raise money for a M.E. charity something I am sure Alan would have been pleased any money from his books could go to. The charity is Invest in ME www.investinme.org/Recently a group of people on Facebook began to realise that because the Government don't invest any money into biomedical research into ME then we would have to do something ourselves Hence this initiative: www.investinme.org/IiME%20Awareness%20Events%20LDIFME.htmWe are trying all ways to fund Invest in ME's dream of a treatment and research Centre right here in the UK. So...sorry this was so long winded, I am trying my to explain fully. Can anyone help me work out the prices I should ask for these books or is anyone wanting any for their collections? I'll leave it there for now and see if anyone responds. Thank you, Carole. Carrick.
