How fascinating that there were folks regularly making syllabub in the 1970s. I associate that drink as a dessert served at fashionable 18th century parties. This page gives some of the history of this drink, and includes a video demonstrating how to make one version, a "whipt Syllabub" (source receipt dates to 1739). I can't say if my mum made it that way. I think she got the recipe from her employer. I didn't know much about the history of syllabub until recently; actually, it was only a couple of days ago that I remembered having it in the 70s.
