Here is a challange for everyone. Can we name as many horror/ghost/weird writers with links to actual countries? There are generally 195 countries recognised. 193 countries that are members of the United Nations and 2 countries that are non-member observer states: the Holy See and the State of Palestine. I added two more: Kosovo (recognized by 98 UN members) and Taiwan (recognized by 15 countries). This thread isn't political, if you don't agree just ignore. Some will be hard, if not impossible. I'll list countries by the letter they start with. As you supply the author I will place he/she/preferred title behind that country, so we will be able to see how we are doing. This is just a piece of fun. Good luck! my source for the list is www.countries-ofthe-world.com/all-countries.htmlSee if you can name any before looking for names! Let's see how many we can get before having to check Internet of books. It's fine if you remember reading something, and need to check author's name, but try not to just go searching, as that makes it too easy.

Remember we are trying to name authors before doing a random search. People on here must have come across writers from different countries in their reading. After all you are all so knowledgeable. Don't be shy about taking part.
Maybe you could also share the story title, or where you learned of the author too. But only if you want to.

A Afghanistan [ā¦] Zimbabwe This is the most avant garde, zeroistic, Dadaist forum post I have ever seen! And I have been very active on such online forums since 1999. And it also bears witness to Aickmanās prophecy of such on-line matters made in his story āYour Tiny Hand Is Frozenā. And that is intended as a compliment from me rather than a condemnation!

Spoilt for choice for Australians; Certainly look for Angela Slatter, Sourdough et al, and Margo Lanagan, whose first collection, Black Juice, caused a sensation when it appeared in 2004.

Austria: Gustav Meyrink Leopold von Sacher-Masoch
Belgium: Michel Parry. Eddy C Bertin, while widely identified as a Belgian author, was actually born in Germany, so perhaps transfer him across? Michel was born in Brussels, so no such complication with him.
Bulgaria Michael Arlen, of 'The Gentleman from America' fame, was born Dikran Kouyoumdjian, in Rousse.
Irish Republic: Bram Stoker, J. S. Le Fanu, Elizabeth Bowen, Dorothy Macardle ....
Malaysia: Tunku Halim
Netherlands: Bies van Ede
Poland: Isaac Bashevis Singer
Russia: Leonid Andreyev Helena P. Blavatsky Fyodor Sologub

Russia+Ukraine +Belarus doesn't have horror fiction There are scary naturalistic stories, depressing realism, psychedelic literature, fantastic satire - but not horror fiction.Today generation of very young amateur writers try hard to imitate King, Barker, McCammon and other stuff of their youth.
Nikolai Gogol (romanticism)
famous fairy tale
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
anti-war novella
wild russian soul
decadance
Now That I'm Awake by Valery Bryusov (The Dedalus Book of Russian Decadence: Perversity, Despair and Collapse)
Sacrifice by Aleksey Remizov
The Rat-Catcher by Alexander Grin
more often than not, stories are spoiled by social grotesque and insufficient flight of fantasy too bound by realities.
to Dem-bones :
Julio Cortazar - uruguayan writer
Guy de Maupassant - Who Knows? -
I love it much more than famous "Horla"
