Now that the men have a fine chat room for themselves they can leave this one alone, and we can have some peace. So I declare the Ladies Afternoon Tea Room Again.

I was looking at early recipes and here is one that they might have served up in an Elizabethan or Stuart tea room, if such a thing had existed. It's a Devonshire White Pot.

Here is Sir Walter Helrunar. Fresh back from founding a colony in the Americas. As you can see it was painted before he was beheaded.

The Devonshire White-pot looks quite intriguing. Unfortunately, the link you posted required me to sign up for some tiresome app in order to view the page, and we do not play that particular game here. I did find this interesting page that quotes two of the original receipts for it: www.foodsofengland.co.uk/whitepot.htmI guess it's just as well I never got around to making a fresh tray of petits-four for this afternoon's session--you know how anything that savored of the French made Her Sacred Majestie Gloriana have yet another fit of the heebie-jeebies. cheers, H.

I see what you mean. I have removed the link. It didn't do that when I first looked. I could read the recipe.

This looks excellent; you make the "macaroones" and I'll make the "plague-water".
