Only two people took part. What a lazy lot you all are! But both thought Slugs was the best of these books. I wouldn't know as I haven't read any of them. I'm not sure its worth attempting anymore polls.

Not lazy but unable to vote. You forgot to include categories such as "haven't read any of these" or "no preference" or possibly even "not fussed either way"...

Although at first glance all those seem sensible suggestions, I still feel that people could have made a bit more effort. Such as binge reading all of them, then taking part. When I say people I'm looking at you shrink proof! Must try harder!

I had an extra busy night last night & this morning, but if I'd had time, I would have voted for the Slugs also, if that means anything.

Slugs is typical early Hutson, gory, oozy fun. The sequel, Breeding Ground, is also pretty good, with one of his most disgusting sequences, and very early in the book, too!
The Rats is a seminal book. I wouldn't say it started the whole 'animals attack' genre, but after it, there were a lot of clones. At the time of its publication there were genuine fears that the rat populations of major cities in the UK were increasing, becoming bolder and there were worries about warfarin resistance. Herbert took all this and ran with it. It's also great fun to read, with lots of cultural references.

I sort of remembered seeing the first three on here, the other two were pretty random choices from a thread I found. They seemed popular. Now I have to find a girly smiley to add to the bottom of my posts when I reply. Oh but what should I choose? Stay tuned to find out!

If you want to try one, I would recommend The Rats as it was the one which started the boom in 'animals attack' horror fiction over the succeeding ten or so years, and was the template for so many.

I saw the trailer for the film Slugs ages ago. It looked terrible. Was it? What would people say we're the most stupid when creatures attack books?

I'll leave ripper alone now with my silliness. Phew, he says.
Ok
So who else wants a smiley? Haha.

As for stupid animal attack books? That's a tough one for me as I haven't read that many given how many of the darn things were written, but I thought The Folly by David Anne had an animal species that didn't really strike me as being scary. They were killer rabbits. Not blooming big ones like in Night of the Lepus, just normal sized fluffy ones.
