For years many Inuit have said that "Eskimo" is an offensive term. And more to the point, stop goading Midoth. He'll get into trouble challenging people to duels.

Sam Dawson do you recognize Princess Tuvstarr as a Queen of the Vault? Everyone is waiting for your oath.

And I didn't encourage Middoth, it was my rugger playing brother (possibly along with his team mates, who all like me) who was going to turn up at your door, if he ever found it.

I rather think they have better things to do

See Princess? GoadedMiddoth, if you were ever tempted to defend yourself with that kind of impractical fantasy hardware I'd suggest a mug of cocoa and an early night instead. Either way, maybe it's been a long day, or a long few months, but this kind of thing and joke threats about people at members' front doors isn't really what I cherish about the Vault, so I'm stepping out for a while. I'll be back some other day. I am sorry if you took my jokes the wrong way Sam Dawson. And I apologise if they offended you. I don't want you to leave the vault, as you seem to enjoy it here. I'll go instead. I'm not looking for attention when I say this (I don't care if people on here don't believe me). I really don't mind. āFor what itās worth: itās never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. Thereās no time limit, start whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life youāre proud of. And if you find that youāre not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.ā Do try to do something on Halloween, a site like this really should make some effort.

Is there a thread on werecreatures that aren't werewolves? Not quite, though here is a mini were-creature selection.

I try to read a huge novel alongside shorter books as a challenge, does anyone else? That's how I was able to get through so much of Cowper Powys, though it took me years. The greatest challenge though, I think, would be to read ArtamĆØne ou le Grand Cyrus (English: ArtamĆØne, or Cyrus the Great) by Madeleine de ScudĆ©ry. It's a huge novel sequence in ten volumes. It is 1,954,300 words and runs to some 13,095 pages. Hands up all those who have read it!

The longest books I've ever read are "The Tale of Genji" at a mere 1,320pgs approx. & an alternate history novel called "The Children's War" at 1,168pgs, I've read Genji 2x so far but I'll probably read it again, and the other book, one of these years....

I've never really thought about how many books I read in a year, but since I joined goodreads I have been looking at what people have been reading and some seem to make what look like wild claims of amounts. But many do include audio books so that would help. I'd think you would need spare time or jobs that allow for reading to get huge numbers. So academics and writers would have time available to read heavily. They may of course speed read, which teaching academics are compelled to do.

It has been said that academics don't read books, they read reviews.
