Here is a song for my best friend on here, Swampirella. It's about Grendel. And it is 17 minutes long. Hehe. With friends like you, as the saying goes, who needs enemies?

Stupid name or not, they are well worth seeing live. I'm sure they are. Are they still going? Has the line-up changed? They're still going. The line-up has changed many times, it seems to alter pretty much for every album and tour. They also do some interesting collaborations - one of their albums was produced by John Cale and they've made videos with Delirium (Canadian new-age ambient duo). I saw them, weirdly, as support act for Jools Holland's R&B Orchestra; the night was concluded by the two groups performing together in probably the strangest jam session I've ever encountered. About 30 people on stage, presenting a strange amalgam of R&B/boogie-woogie with medieval/early music vocals and harmonies. Unbelievably, it worked...

Delirium (Canadian new-age ambient duo) It is with some hesitation I admit to knowing this, but it is actually "Delerium."

17 minutes is too short, the Swamp Lady demands longer Grendel songs. My teenage self would never believe what I'm about to do, but if you enjoy Marillion, have you tried the band they wanted to be, Genesis, especially the earlier, 1970s albums? Grendel is acknowledged to be their attempt at Genesis' Supper's Ready. You will find in their work a considerable number of references to mythology, Little Nemo, TS Elliot, 666 etc. My teenage self will now walk away shaking his head in disbelief that I actually recommended Genesis to someone. On a separate note, the theme tune to the TV series Detectorists has a nice kind of fey 60s folk Barclay James Harvest winsomeness and the series itself is not just clever and acutely observed, but charming beyond belief.

As I love things to do with myself (the more the better), please suggest songs to use to serenade me. Don't be shy. The more the merrier. Well, this seems oddly appropriate; O Princess by The Broken Family Band - Or maybe this; Another Girl, Another Planet by The Only Ones -

Another Girl, Another Planet by The Only Ones - Great stuff. I read a while back that Peter Perrett has finally stopped converting the royalty cheques into powders and is starting to get it together again. Here's hoping...

Great stuff. I read a while back that Peter Perrett has finally stopped converting the royalty cheques into powders and is starting to get it together again. Here's hoping... Yeah, he's released a couple of solo albums in the last few years, but I haven't heard them. Here's another from The Broken Family Band (possibly my favourite of their songs), an amazing band that for some reason never got the recognition they deserved -

Returning to the original theme of this thread, here's some more "summer in the city" stuff for you. Filmed in Cairo, a city where the weather is always summer (or at least warm), here are Gothenburg's finest, The Soundtrack of our Lives...

Film footage of dolphins and whales sporting in the ocean, with music from a beautifully performed Pagan chant in honor of the Sea: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY8zXfqQFToShot I would gather during the Summer, but has nothing to do with "the city." H.
