Agreed that that is a marvelous photo of Pertwee the magnificent with Jo Grant. My favorite companion was Liz--I loved both the actress, Caroline John, and how the character was written. My first Who serial ever was The Silurians which hit local syndication sometime circa 1973, I believe. No smoking jacket, no motorbike, no flying capes, no jetpowered Vroom Broom and I'm too old and too fat for the role. But it's nice that you thought of me, Princess. I have no doubt that Some Day Your Prince will come. Here's an offbeat summer song, "The Seagulls scream" from the obscure disc, "Sounds like West Cornwall." www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTR-enKtaRk&list=PLurTO43o-LBIzzmzZDTYIMwnHBxZHkRm3&index=10cheers, Hel

Now this one closes all romance doors, that's for sure. But wonderfully awakens my dreamy adventurous spirit.
I definitely want to leave the city in the summer. Unless it'd be Budapest, perhaps. Or if I could be transported to the '50s, or gladly, back to the '70s, any European city.

How's about a catchy East German summer song? You never actually said the songs had to be in English. I actually watched all of Heisser Sommer (Hot Summer in case you hadn't guessed) last fall; found it on Arch*ve (in original German but subtitles available from Open Subtitles). Unless of course your German is much much better than mine. Can I get expelled from the Vault for this?
Should we start a thread about Communist music? Is there a one? I know nothing about it. It would be interesting to discover more wouldn't it. Did they copy the West? Did they have things like Progressive Rock? I remember when I visited Moscow in 1982 that one of the records being played in the hotel bar had lyrics in English that went something like "The West is in a mess" - or words to that effect. But I'm afraid that's all I know about it. That line always struck me as particularly ironic when I looked at the sparsity of goods on display in Moscow's shops at the time.

Oh, I should add one. This is from Joni Mitchell's album The Hissing of Summer Lawns. "Anima rising Uprising in me tonight"

Doctor Strange, agreed there are a few dodgy ones--I'm looking at you, Mr Goldsboro--but all I associate quite closely with Summer.

Not "summer in the city" but specifically summer in Liverpool. Images from and about the endless blue summers of the Liverpool neopsychedelic era (1987-83 approx), and music for sunny days when, even in the dereliction and riots, anything seemed possible...

Oh Shrink Proof, the Kardomah CafƩ in Swansea was where Dylan Thomas would meet up with the Kardomah Boys, a group of bohemians, when he was "young and easy under the apple boughs" and starting out on life. I didn't realise it was a chain of coffee shops that began in Liverpool. I like the song. The book mentioned on wiki written by their manager is available on Scribd. Do you know it? Should I try it?

I like the song. The book mentioned on wiki written by their manager is available on Scribd. Do you know it? Should I try it? You can judge for yourself. The Cherry Boy's manager, Graham Jones, wrote "Last Shop Standing", which includes tales of his time managing the band. That bit can be heard narrated by the man himself via this Soundcloud link. But if you want to read the harrowing truth of the Liverpool neopsychedelic scene, by far the best book is "Head On" by Julian Cope, which tells of the hypersonic insanity that was The Teardrop Explodes (as in the video above - he's the guy singing). There's a Vault thread on that particular memoir right here.
