As mentioned elsewhere, continuing their bid for entire world domination, friend Darrell Buxton and industrious cronies are bent on publishing two more volumes of the BHF Books of Horror Stories[/b] before the year is out. Should any of our readers wish to contribute a story for consideration ....
"We hope to have these two new ones prepared between a mid-August kick-off date for submissions, and an end-of-November deadline, to get them out in time for Xmas. Book six theme will be '666', in whatever way the authors choose to interpret; book seven theme is "when animals attack" - I want my team to channel their inner Guy N Smith/Hutson/'Rats'-era Herbert, and if possible to pick a ridiculous creature, turn it feral, and have hordes of them invading a crap British town. 'Donkeys Demolish Doncaster' etc. ..."
Please read this next carefully
"Please emphasize that we are a non-profit, charity fundraising concern and that I cannot pay for stories or offer contributor comp copies. Also, that the next book projects will be taking place between mid-August and late November 2021, so I am not accepting full story submissions until mid-August. If people wish to send a one-sentence pitch for either the #666' or 'When Animals Attack' concepts, they are welcome to do so immediately, however (mainly to ensure that I don't get seventeen identical stories about devil children or about baboons besieging Bournemouth...). Anyone interested can either join our BHF Books of Horror Stories page on Facebook or can email me at: darrellpbuxtonATgmail.com "
From the first, I set myself against "literature"; the story was the thing, and no amount of style could persuade me to select a story that lacked genuine, unadulterated horror. For those who wanted something high-brow there was plenty. - Christine Campbell Thomson
SUBMIT YOUR STORY NOW! But please read all of the following before you do.
Announcing the submissions window for volumes six and seven of this series of popular horror anthologies.
Book Six will be on the theme of '666' Book Seven will be on the theme 'When Animals Attack'
Publication is planned for December 2021, with all proceeds being donated to charities of the editor's choosing. This is a non-paying gig, therefore. Stories are invited from amateur first-timers, seasoned pros, and everyone in between.
Guidelines: Stories should be no shorter than 1500 words, and no longer than 5000 words. These limits will be very strictly enforced, no exceptions, so you will be required to edit any drafts falling outside these parameters.
Submissions should be sent to editor Darrell Buxton, email firstname.lastname@example.org
You can send completed stories between August 16th and November 15th 2021
Your story should contain significant horror content. Though you may wish to interpret that however you please.
We are seeking a 1970s / 1980s pulp paperback vibe.
Exorcism/devil/possession tales are encouraged for Book Six, though you may wish to deviate from this while keeping within the '666' theme.
For Book Seven, again you can write whatever you wish within the theme, but we are particularly seeking stories in which unlikely real breeds of creature go crazy and invade/assault/terrorise 'crap British towns'. GBH Gibbons Go Grimsby, Angry Aardvarks Attack Aberdeen, Impish Impalas Impale Ipswich, that sort of deal. (You don't have to use alliteration in your title, by the way!)
You are welcome to join our 'BHF Books of Horror Stories' Facebook page, and can also discuss our previous publications and these ongoing new projects right here at the 'Vault of Evil' web forum. Please note that we are seeking illustrators to provide black-and-white interior art, specifically connected with the selected stories. We do already have an artist designing the colour covers. Any further enquiries can be made to Darrell via email as shown above, by Facebook Messenger, or on the BHF Books Facebook page. Competition for places within these volumes is likely to be fierce, so send us your best material. Lawrence Gordon Clark was in our last book - no pressure, but that's the standard we're talking about...
A reminder that submissions for BHF books six and seven are now being accepted, as per the terms noted above. We're making good progress so far and are on schedule to have the new volumes ready by December. We even have a typically excellent Paul Mudie cover for Book six already, and he's developing ideas for Book seven.
So if you have a 666 or savage animal attack story you'd like to send for consideration, see the previous post.
