Mixed bag. Yet another one for the W.H. Allen skull fan club to savour. I'm not sure any of the three John Lymington's I read were more than mildly interesting quickies for slow Saturday afternoons, but somehow I find the cover art for his books consistently weirdly fascinating across several different imprints. Even the less than beautiful Froomb!, in Macfadden Books, has a certain something.

I have read HOTHOUSE many times and always find it fascinating. There is nothing quite like it. This is one I still miss.
I am fascinated by Report on Probability A. What a frustrating and often tedious book, still I wonder if any other writer could have done something similiar. It is a novel which seems to be one of a kind.
Brian had Robbe-Grillet in mind - LA JALOUSIE, for instance (where he relished the titular pun).

I never read anything by Robbe-Grillet, just saw two movies he directed. C´est Gradiva qui vous rappelle and Glissements progressifs du plaisir. It is hard to understand why especially the last one caused such furor back then. I think I will look the novel up.

The Ball is hard to get. I have his other novels, but this seemes to have vanished from the online market.

When Ghosts do Cosplay, Skeletons in drag, etc. Our Badly Posed Photo covers thread got murdered by ph*t*b*cket, so here's a revamp. When ghosts do cosplay, skeletons in drag, rubbish monsters, and, of course great badly and/or brilliantly posed cover photos of all genres. Snappy dressers also likely to feature. dem bones sent me here for fashion tips. I'd dress as the first three, but not the fourth. Edited to say that number one would be a bit of a push.

Belarusian cover to "Herbert West-Reanimator" (1992)
Colin Wilson seems to have infiltrated this cover.

Middoth, there's something about Reanimator cover that really rings my chimes. I'm assuming the book came out somewhere between '75 and '85. So insanely OTT and the art style brings back my salad days.
cheers, H.

The book from 1993. Maybe the first attempt to portray something scary in book cover format.

Do you mean this artist's first attempt? It looks really retro for 1993 but perhaps in Belarus it was cutting edge.
On the other hand, compared with some of the typical paperback covers in the UK and US around that time, it's really quite decent.

I mean the horror genre didn't exist before in this country.
